I was reading the Inc article about how we waste time at work.. they had all of the usual things and then they listed some 'extreme' examples of how they found people wasting time. Such as:
  • Blowing bubbles in sub-zero weather to see if the bubbles would freeze and break
  • Caring for pet bird that employee smuggled into work
  • Shaving legs in the women's restroom
  • Laying under boxes to scare people
  • Having a wrestling match
  • Sleeping, but claimed he was praying
  • Taking selfies in the bathroom
  • Changing clothes in a cubicle
  • Warming her bare feet under the bathroom hand dry
That seems like a normal working environment to me.
 
I remember back when I worked in the big fancy hotel, and when there was a huge function on with a massive champagne reception, it would be a total riot, staff everywhere, managers and supervisors having mental breakdowns in every corner. Anyway - when that sort of function was ahappening, my friend and I would leave the hotel, instead of holding the trays of champagne flutes for incoming guests, and head down the road to the bar/club called Frankenstein's and order a pitcher of cocktails each. We'd have a few smokes, drink our pitcher each, then head back up to the hotel to finish the shift. No one would ever notice you were gone. That was one of my favourite ways to waste time at work.
 
Laying under boxes to scare people? haha sounds like a fun work environment!


I painted my nails at work yesterday. My work may not agree, but I think it was a good use of time.

Yup, just fingernails. But to be honest I am tempted to do my toenails today.
I'm retired now, of course, but I can honestly say that I have never wasted time on any job that I have ever had.

Appearing to be busy and productive, while actually doing something much more pleasant, takes far more ingenuity, imagination, and hard work than you might think, but doing so is never a waste of time.

I should be doing work right now but I'm on here instead. All sorts of excuses can be said and I often use them but really who cares? As I work for myself, by myself those excuses are just thoughts. Do you expect me to say I'm talking to myself because I don't have an issue with that, now arguing with myself and losing, that is a different thing.
But on the bright side I am close to my work which is done on this computer.
 
At my work, wasting time is basically just talking to my co-workers. Although even then I still try to finish my work and look busy. We get in trouble if we're not constantly doing work. And working with customers means we can't be on our phones. Sometimes we can sneak it in if no one is around. lol. When it's a slow day and I'm behind the counter I can sometimes get away with using my phone for a few minutes here and there. Like today at work! lol
