Hi, everyone -
I'm new here, and I picked my name because I am re-watching Doublemeat Palace. It's probably my least favorite episode from season 6, but even those are better than most other tv series.

I am a devoted Buffy fan, I love the characters, the story arc, and dialogue - everything, really. But watching season 6 again, one thing bugged me:

Why on earth doesn't the Watcher's council pay the slayers? It makes no sense! The Watchers themselves are paid - what about the slayers? Has this been discussed anywhere, did Joss Whedon mention anything about it?

True if slayers got paid then maybe Buffy wouldn't ahve had money troubles and she wouldnt have been as bothered by having being a slayer as her destiny!

Yeah, that's what got me wondering. And it can't be just Buffy - I mean, most slayers die at a young age, but we know that at least Robin's mother got old enough to quit school - and how do those slayers live? It doesn't seem fair that they have to save the world and work in burger places to pay their bills. :thought:
 
I guess their payment was supposed to be about knowing they were doing good and helping make the world a safer place.
But also, the Watcher's Council were basically jerks so I doubt they really cared enough to pay anyone. I'm also unsure where they'd get funding for that sort of thing, but I'm probably thinking about it too much.
 
That is a good Point, i never think of these kind of things!

Yeah if she actually did get paid, she probably would of enjoyed it a bit better.

About the Watcher's Council...I figured they'd pay some stuff, if the slayer doesn't have any other option, like Faith's motel. But with Buffy it was different, in the early season she had her mother to provide for her (and let's not forget she didn't even know Buffy was the slayer...secret checks in the mail would've been weird, lol), and at the end of s3 she quit the Council and wanted nothing to do with them, so I guess it would've beem very presumptuous to ask them for money!

Some watchers council person: All those alchemists on the board and they still couldn't cough up the air fare home.



So I guess that explains some of the money.
 
Welcome to the Boards! Yeah forget paying Buffy... how do they make money in the first place? That is a good question. We know that Giles gets reinstated with full benefits at some point.... but what's that even mean?
 
Hi Maria! :welcome: *starts singing songs from Sound of music* Sorry. Can't help myself. :blush: If you want to get to know a few of our members a bit better getting sorted would be a good idea and you get sorted in The Sorting Tome. You seem to find your way around pretty well but if you feel that you might need a little guidance on the boards don't be afraid to ask anyone for help or maybe get an official helper by getting adopted, Bad Eggs.
