I've seen some episodes of Angel, but I have never watched the entire series in one go. So, I'm on episode two now 😀 😀

I know I'm late to the party, but I'm one of those people who wants to delay having seen all of the contents of a franchise as long as possible. So, this is going to be a very long and slow watch. Gon take my sweet time 🙂

I'm in the middle of a rewatch, It's taking a while (I blame Daredevil for distracting me!). I've gone through Seasons 1-3. I've found it a lot less easy to get through than seasons of Buffy. Maybe because I always preferred Buffy? So yeah, I took my sweet time too (and still am!)

I thought Season 1 was actually really decent for a spin-off of an established show. It's definitely a different tone to Buffy, everything is much darker. I'm interested to hear what a completely new viewer thinks of it though. 🙂

I actually meant to ask you the other day if you'd watched Angel before. I only recently saw it all the way through and am on a re-watch for my review thread. Am currently at the start of season two which I consider the best season, and am just getting to the good stuff. Let us know your thoughts as you go along🙂

Inconsistent is the word for me. Yes it establishes a very different to Buffy, but I do find the stories and overall characters in the first season very hit and miss. I think it really comes into its own at the back end of the season, and that carries over into season two which for me is probably the best. Three's good too, but they try to cram a bit too much into that season and it feels a bit uneven. Am a bit unsure about four and five as I need to watch them again. Am mostly happy with five and how the show ended.

I'm very jealous. I've seen AtS so many times now but when I watch it again I remember the thrill I felt on my first watch. I prefer it to BtvS but I can understand why people pick AtS over BtvS and vice versa. They are very different in tone and morality even while being definitively in the same universe.

Can't wait to hear your opinions on it as the seasons go on. 🙂

So, far I really like Angel the series, because it feels more mature than Buffy in some ways. Cordelia is one of my favourite characters in the buffyverse, so I'm really excited for her character development.

My evening is filled with Buffy! I'm drawing Buffy and watching Angel 😀

Think I prefer mostly because of the way it subverts narrative and plays with logic and the audiences expectations. Plus I really am invested with the characters. But at its best Angel matches up very well too. As for Cordy I was a bigger fan of hers in the first couple of seasons of Angel, not so much after that.

To be fair to Charisma Carpenter though, she's not actually given much to do in S3. They really underuse the character in that season IMO.

I wasn't really blaming her. I do like her and the character, but IMO I try to hard change it, and after awhile it doesn't feel like the same person. There are of course other reasons for the decline, which I won't go into for those of you who haven't watched it yet.

That one of the reasons I disliked about it . They so underused her in that season .

I'm trying to work my way through Angel. I've not seen the whole series. Seems like I get going, watch a few episodes, then lose steam. For some reason it hasn't grabbed me the way BTVS has. But I'm going to be like the Little Engine That Could and keep at it.

I think the third season is just full of plots and has more characters so yeah Cordy does find herself fighting for breating room.😉

What season are you on? Let me know how you get on? Think I will watch another season two episode in a bit.

And of course I meant that Cordy found herself fighting for "breathing room" not beating room"😉

@cryptwarmer that is annoying. Good luck anyway.

I'm trying to do a complete watch through and I'm somewhere in S1 maybe half through. BUT. Amazon took them off prime and I don't own the DVDs, I have limited access to Netflix..awkward
Well I have the dvds at home, but that's across the pond. I just googled 'watch angel online' and then I got a bunch of links. I don't feel bad about this, because I actually own the dvds

I have seen the first four episodes now, I like the tone & it's much grittier. I dig it 🙂

Hope you still like Buffy after seeing Angel 😎

Once Greenwalt leaves and Whedon takes over the grit gets stuck in your teeth. Dig it while you can!

Really? The fourth episode is full of LMAO materials IMO.😀😀😀

Expectation spoiler in case Foxy accidentally sees:
Besides a dozen episodes here and there, only Angel S2 can compare with Buffy. The rest is really not as good.

My opinion of Angel is that it's really good and I like it a lot, but not nearly as much as Buffy. I find it a lot more dry and tedious at times. The lack of a big bad for each season makes it feel a little unfocused to me, and Wolfram and Hart isn't as threatening as it should be. I actually prefer seasons 3-5, which I think is a less popular opinion. There are some things I really love, like Wesley's arc, and the Wesley/Fred/Illyria storyline, and Lorne, Lilah, and Lindsey. I prefer Cordelia on Buffy.

Wesley arc on there was great. As well as Lorn on there . And I agree with you Cordelia was better on Buffy . They really toned her down
on Angel .

I don't want to say too much for those still in the early stages but are you a fan of the Angel-Darla arc? I am overall, think they do some really interesting things with it, although they could have cut down some of the flash back scenes. I see their purpose, but they just feel a bit clunky and I find the modern stuff more interesting.

SPOILER ALERT FOR ANGEL SEASON TWO
I did enjoy parts of it, but I watched Angel after Buffy, so for me I was tired of the whole formerly evil vamp gets his or her soul and feels guilt thing, after Angel and Spike. I think it's a little bit ridiculous that three out of the four of them had their souls at one point. I would have preferred it if Darla had returned a human without a soul, as as far as we know, she's the only vamp to get permanently turned back into a human. That to me would have been more interesting, and made her a more unique character. I was looking forward to Darla being glad she chose to turn into a vampire because she has disdain for humanity (whether she had her soul or not), but that didn't happen. That being said, I did enjoy Drusilla returning to revamp Darla, and the flashbacks. Darla is one of my favorite Angel episodes.
