As others have alluded to it's only really an issue if you're uploading. Even then it's really only an issue if you are uploading A LOT. I have unison set up to automatically download shows I watch via usenet. Usenet is nice for a a lot of reasons, the biggest two probably being you can max out your connection and you aren't uploading anything like you would with bittorrent.

This is off-topic, but has anyone heard that in the UK Virgin and here in the US Verizon are going to start to limit bandwidth depending on sites visited? I read the article somewhere a few months back, that some sites will reduce your DSL speed. For instance, Buffy-Boards you would get 100% of your bandwidth speed, but my only get 70% for sites like YouTube, Hulu etc. In order to bump that to 100% you have to pay an addition premium.

Was not sure of the story and the validity, curious if anyone else heard that.

I know in August Google and Verizon put out a proposition to settle the net neutrality debate which left room for the monitoring/limiting bandwidth of wireless platforms. I don't know much other than that.

Actually, for obvious reasons, I was reluctant to reveal my secret sources just in case there happened to actually be some Feds here (or maybe some disgruntled Bangel just looking to get me in the slammer)

On the actual topic, I think your fine watching stuff online, it's downloading they look out for and more specifically uploading again. I don't know what it's like in other countries but in Ireland your BB provider doesn't monitor your site traffic just the general usage, so they might know you downloaded 10 gigs of data but wouldn't know what it's for, (well they do, but it's not accessible info).

If your caught to be uploading/downloading your caught by a 3rd party(the copyright people) not by your internet provider, and they request your details from your internet provider.

It depends on what your internet providers policy is on the matter then, like at the moment in Ireland, only 1 operator has agreed to give out customers details if requested, and they have a 3 strike policy, were they send your 3 letters before taking further action.
