Watching Season 4 again

I like every season, but this is the last really, really good season for me. (Dawn seriously ruined the series for me. Ugh.) I loved most of the episodes!

I just watched "This Year's Girl" and Faith really teed me off. I know she's all crazy, but what a chip on the shoulder. "I'm going to kill you because you put me in a coma and ruined my life. Haha." Well, duh. You tried to kill Angel, Buffy, the Scoobies, unncessarily sliced and diced demons because you turned psycho, and were going to help the mayor eat the town. So sorry that Buffy didn't sit back and let ya fly. You lost. Get over it. Move on. Ok, done with rant.

The thing that bugged me about the initiative it just suddenly appeared. A well oiled machine that big doesn't spring up overnight. It seemed like that place had been in full operation for awhile. During that time you would think Buffy would run across them multiple times. The first 3 big bads made logical sense and fit. Even the mayor was hinted at before his big debut. They should have at least had Buffy bump into a commando every once in awhile.

I'm a science guy so Adam doesn't bug me as much as other people. However I do think he was the weakest big bad character wise. I agree that Walsh should have been the big bad with Adam as her general but they I would them to control a cyborg demon a small army. Then during the final battle Adam could have had his epiphany moment and switched sides and kill professor walsh. Afterwards Adam could leave on his own to fight the good fight and could make an appearance every once in awhile.

I just think Adam as a good guy is a lot more intriguing then a true big bad or Walsh's lackey.

I have issues with the giant military operation springing up in "small" Sunnydale as well.
I think season 4 is terribly underrated!
I loved the Freshman, Living Conditions, The harsh light of day, Fear itself, Beer Bad (YES, I DO LOVE BEER BAD!), Wild at heart, Something Blue, Hush, Doomed, A new man, The I in team, This year's girl, Who are you?, Superstar, New moon rising, The Yoko Factor, Primeval and Restless. I think it's the season with the more episodes I love in it!

The Initiative plot was meh. The drama wasn't really there (except with Oz 🙁 ). But every episode is really nice to watch!
And it does bring character development. Between Willow coming out, Xander living his non-college life, Anya softening, Giles in his not-really-mid-age crisis, Spike forced to become a veggie vampire (who doesn't sparkle)...At the end of the serie, the characters evolved! And to be honest, season 5 makes me cry *so much* that I'm good with a season that mostly make me cry of laugh!
 
I enjoyed it. imo one of the finest moments in the whole series was... Xander and Harmony's "fight" in The Initiative ep.

I'm pretty sure the ep I laughed hardest at is Something Blue, and I was on the edge of my seat when The Gentlemen were chasing Tara. But my favourite part of Hush was Anya's gesture after Xander was punching Spike, haha

I felt Professor Walsh would have made a better Big Bad than Adam. She was so diabolical in The I In Team and imagine if instead of creating Adam, she had demon and robots added to herself instead. That would have been pretty badass, I think.
 
Season 4 was a major departure with the decision to move Buffy from high school to college, and the partial breakup of the Scoobies.
Adam is of course a nod to the Frankenstein theme.
Maggie Walsh fits the picture of a leader who is totally unscrupulous, the ends justify the means view. When she got the idea that Buffy was a threat to whatever she had planned in Room 314 she had no hesitation with deciding to have her eliminated. And have to wonder if even the authorities over her in the military had any idea what she was doing, by creating a monster. It does not fit with the purpose of the Initiative , that of capturing,. neutralizing, and studying HSTs.
The reason as to why Buffy had no knowledge of the Initiative prior to S4 could be that they confined their activities around the Sunnydale campus area where they were headquartered. Or maybe they werent around in the early seasons.
 
The beginning of S4 broke my heart. I was so depressed without Sunnydale High & the library being "the hangout" for the scoobies. I felt so lost watching the first couple episodes, but I think thats how Joss wanted the viewers to feel because Buffy was kind of losing herself in S4.

I'm not a big fan of season 4. Don't like The Initiative, don't like chipped Spike and there's a lot of that. What I like - the comedy, Tara, the Faith arc is all kinds of awesome. And I like Riley before the Initiative stuff took over his character. I am surprised about all the pangs love though. God I hate that episode so much, it's probably the worst Buffy episode for me 😀.
 
I love Season 4 and Riley (other than when he went icky, but both sides to blame on that one). Walsh definately would have been a better big bad than Adam. The episodes and arcs were awesome and I laughed and cried!
