For those of you keeping track of the Olympic Games, I would like to ask you a question about something that my wife and I have been discussing lately. Do there seem to be a lot more falls, slips, overturned sleds, and just in general, more accidents at these Games than normal?

Especially in the various ice skating competitions, it seems that there are at least 1 or 2 falls in every event.

I haven't watched anything this year. I've beome so bad in recent years. But to answer your question, if the news are anything to go by the answer is a big fat yes. But I've heard more about skiing events than skating ones. There's been loads of criticism about how the tracks (?) has been made.

Arg, I've missed SO much of the Games this year-- and they're in my own home country! I got to watch the hockey finally last night and was very impressed by how well both teams of ladies played. And Canada got gold, which was another plus 😀

But no, you're definitely right that there's been a lot more accidents this year WA. As far as I've heard, the Olympic Committee almost lost the site for the Olympics many times, and since they held it in Vancouver (rather than one of the other zillion places in Canada that would be snowy enough for the games) they had to haul in a lot of snow to even get the slopes to where they are. Which, from what I've heard in the paper, is far from the ideal conditions. Even this week, according to our forecasts Vancouver's weather has been above zero and rainy-- yikes!

Even in the ice rink their Zamboni broke down right before the first round of skating events, so they had to bring one in from Calgary and smooth the ice by hand until it got there. 🙁

I only follow the biathlon since it is the only competition that interests me and because the commentators of the German stations are completely biased and pretty much just talk about the German competitioners instead of, you know, what's actually going on. It's very annoying.
