Weakest BTVS episode that Whedon directed?

MQ: Weakest BTVS episode that Whedon directed? Why?

Weakest BTVS episode that Whedon directed? Why?
When She Was Bad. I don't like this episode that much in general. Mostly because Buffy is such a 'bitca' in this episode.

Grave.


Any Whedon directed episodes you find to be slightly overrated?
Restless. It is a good episode and I love Giles' song, but I would never watch this episode by itself. It has to be watched together with the rest of season 4 to make sense. I also think it is very much in the style of the Firefly episode Objects in Space (as well directed by Joss Whedon), but I prefer Objects in Space.


Which one of the above Whedon episodes do you find to be the most emotionally moving?
Innocence, The Gift and The Body.

OP1: Chosen or Grave? Grave

OP2: Any Whedon directed episodes you find to be slightly overrated? Innocence. Don't get me wrong I love the episode but to me it was 'Passion' that really took the show to another place. Innocence was just a stepping stone for that.

OP3: Which one of the above Whedon episodes do you find to be the most emotionally moving? Its a clos ecall between 'The Body' and 'Becoming Part 2'

The Freshman. It just doesn't hit home like the others...even though we have an emotional involvement, it's not strong like the others. It's also the weakest season opening for me.

Actually, that would be Grave again. I like the yellow crayon speech but aside from that and Giles (always awesome) most of the scenes were useless and I hated Buffy fighting stuff with Dawn and than coming to a revelation..it was so cheesy and seemed forced. It could've been so much better.

Yeah, I knew that :) I just meant which is the weakest of the two...not that Joss directed.

That's a hard one, but probably 'Lie To Me', the one out of those in the list I enjoyed the least.

Chosen, it gave the show a great finale (in my opinion)

Last time I watched 'Becoming Part 2' about a week ago, I found myself on the verge of tears, so I'd say 'Becoming Part 2' and 'The Gift'

For me, it's "Restless". I felt like it was a horrible way to end Season 4. They should have stuck with "Primeval" as the season finale and went out on a high note.


OP1: Chosen or Grave? Oooh this is is a tough one. Even though I hate Dark Willow, I'm going to go with "Grave". I love this episode purely for the fact that Buffy, for once, doesn't save the world. In every other apocolypse, we see Buffy defeating the villain. In "Grave", it's not Buffy, but the everyman Xander who is able to break through to Willow's humanity and save them all. I think it's a powerful message that, even with superpowers, you can't win them all, and sometimes it's the most ordinary people that accomplish the most amazing things. Plus, the emotion of Willow crying in Xander's arms is simply beautiful.


OP2: Any Whedon directed episodes you find to be slightly overrated?
I like "Family", but I find it to be kind of overrated. It's got a great message, and I think it's a great episode to let Tara shine, but I just don't think it is worth the love it gets. For me, I always kinda saw this as a filler episode in the season, and I was surprised to see that Joss directed this one; Joss usually directs the more "blockbuster" episodes. This one was just kinda boring for me.

For me, the most emotionally moving is "The Body". It's just so amazingly written and acted, and the fact that there is no music to help guide your emotions along is brilliant. You feel what the characters are feeling, right along with them.

You could ask witch is worse Once more with Feeling or Grave and OMWF would be worse because its not Grave

From Entropy to Grave are the best Buffy eps IMO its the only time Im truely blinded by my option

Wait, I thought the question was which one we like better 😕 Grave is my favorite episode.
I answered every question individually. To me, the question "Chosen or Grave?" had nothing to do with the main topic.

For me Family as I love all the others more then this one sorry!

I like Grave more then Chosen because Chosen felt rushed.

Out of the list Lie To Me even though I really like the episode I don't love it as much as the others I find the other episodes more moving.

For me Becoming Part 2, Amends and The Body I cried to all of these episodes and find them so moving, The Gift would be in the top but I didn't cry as much as the three I choose 🙂
 
Weakest of these is Amends, to me. It's a strong episode up until the end, which kind of derails the entire thing in my mind (but that's another topic for another time, I won't go into it unless someone really wants to know what I have to say). I also find it quite overrated.

Oh, we might have to go into it 🙂. "Amends" is one of my favorite episodes on this list. I've never understood why people think it's overrated. It's an incredibly important episode that pretty much guides Angel's direction for his entire spinoff. I don't know, I'm a huge fan of this one.

In a nutshell, the Deus Ex Machina nature of the ending doesn't work for me. I understand that it's supposed to be the Powers That Be saving him or something to that effect, but it still doesn't work for me, even with that explanation. We should probably take this to another thread if we want to continue this conversation.

Such a hard question! But with much thought, I have to go with The Freshman. It's a good ep but it just doesn't stack up against any of the other IMO.

Just SLIGHTLY, I'd have to say Graduation Day Part 2. I know everyone thought the giant snake thing was cool & I thought it was too but I always thought it was slightly overrated because it looked so fake because of the CGI. I wish it could've looked more realistic but that's just a small complaint because I had to find one. 🙂

Innocence. It deals with something that has affected me most of my life & that I still struggle with. It also contains one of my favorite scenes & lines in the show when Joyce brings Buffy her cupcake & asked her to make a wish. Instead, Buffy says she'll just let it burn. I love that moment because it says so much about what it's like to be hurt so badly by someone else & also to lose your innocence.
