Web host problems?

I've noticed some downtime issues lately with the board. It seemed to be down for quite a while this evening (Dec. 29), and a few days ago there was an "Exceeded Bandwidth" warning.

Has anyone else had these problems or is there something wonky happening at my end?

Anyway... I can make a recommendation if the Admins here are having trouble with web hosting...
 
It's not just you. Just be patient, and I know Buffy Summers will make it all better. She's really good at that!!
 
I don't think we actually had any downtime today. The bandwith wasn't a hosting issue, we just used up all that we had for the month and I had to buy more, but I worked the night then went right to the airport and was on a plane all day so I didn't get onto the computer for a while.

I'm actually pretty happy with our current host. Feel free to suggest somebody, but the size that we are I don't think a better deal is out there. We have downtime occasionally (which has been lessened by me moving BB to it's own server account) because we get more than the max number of connections to the database because of having so many people on at once, but other hosts set the max at the same or lower than our current one. And usually the board is back up in a few minutes.

I've been on Lunarpages for over 5 years now with a high-traffic site and haven't had any downtime issues at all. The Business Plan allots 15 terabytes of bandwidth per month.

I don't know how this stacks up price-wise with the deal you're getting. I can certainly vouch for the reliability and bandwidth.
 
A vbulletin board is a while different animal from having a regular site. It's demanding on a server and a lot of hosts will kick us off for using too many server resources and I really don't want to have to move us lol. And anyone who can offer Tbs of bandwith are overselling their servers. I'll look at them, but I know asmallorange is good people who respond pretty instantly whenever there's a problem.
 
I'm using A Small Orange for my website, and it was down yesterday for about 15 or 30 minutes. I kept getting a weird error message when I tried to download my email, that was my first clue. It was back up in a heartbeat, tho, no problems. All in all, they're a pretty decent host, I've had NO issues with them at all. They're always very nice and helpful when I have a problem, too.

I don't know whether its my internet or anything,but on the 26th of december i wwasn't abel to get on the baords at all for most of the day,i'm using firefox and i kept getting this message " server timeout & server couldn't get a response from buffy-boards.com", then later on that evening ti worked fine.

The message has come up today when i was on the boards and tried to click on a thread or go back to the home page, if i refresh its alright again. Could this be a problem with my computer?Or is anyone else having this problem?

As far as I know my webspace that I use has got no traffic limit, but I'm not sure anymore as I'm not paying myself, but a friend... But most likely I'm mistaken. 😉

Usually if a host promises "unlimited bandwidth" they actually mean "unlimited until we decide you're using too much, at which time we'll cut your site off without warning." I went through a few of those before I settled on my current host. Very frustrating.

As a rule of thumb I wouldn't go with any host that didn't give a firm number for bandwidth limit. Even if you go over that limit and have to pay more, at least you know where you stand.
 
I'd recommend Dreamhost. They have dedicated servers and even without a dedicated, I cant actually ever remember having bandwidth problems. I run my own site from there for the last 5 years or so. Though the hassle of transferring would probably be more than its worth.

They offer "unlimited" but they do make fun of this in their blog and offer realistic levels, I found them to be the most honest of the hoster's ive dealt with (in all honesty ive only ever dealt with 3 though) and they do lay things out pretty clear. The final nail in the coffin for me was that their customer service was top notch... installing a 3rd party SSL certificate for example was done within the hour.

I'd post a referral link but then you'd just figure I was advertising for them, I have a $50 coupon though if your interested.
 
I'll check them out, but like I said, vbulletin needs some special things that a lot of hosts don't have the knowledge about or desire to offer.

Oh, no, mixed things up again, so do you know of woltlab burning boards? I find them very good boards and so far I've known them to run on any webspace so you might check out if it would suit your purpose and if it doesn't use up as many resources and ecetera.
