Okay, so as some of you may know, I got engaged a few months ago and have begun to plan my wedding. I have a problem though. When my fiance proposed I was a little drunk and we were out seeing bands so I thought it would be a swell idea to ask the first person I saw to be my maid of honour.

It happened to be my cousin and in the months since I haven't even seen her, and have also decided that I just want one of my friends to be my maid of honour and not have bridesmaids.

How do you kick someone off your bridal party? I don't think she would overly care, since we never see each other, but I still don't know how to do it exactly. Do I call her out of the blue and tell her? Or do I wait till I see her at a family do? Which may not be for a few months?

Bah! Wedding's are stressful!

Lmao, you did what i did, i was drunk and all giddy so i asked a random friend to by mine when i only want me best friend to do it. I originally told the random friend that i decided that everyone was just gonna be bridesmaid and i wasnt gonna have a maid of honour even though i was, but i never talk to that random friend much anyways.
I would personally recommend that you do tell your cousin and soon. Could you not tell her that (the person you want to be maid of honour) has been helping you out and has been so excited and constantly there for you that you feel bad if she is not maid of honour? Maybe that could work.

I'd say since there is no way of knowing for sure how she'll react that it would just be best to call her. Waiting for a family get together might result in a scene and I'm sure that's not something you'd appreciate that much.

Also I'm fairly certain that if you're just honest with her she'll love you enough to understand. My cousin dropped me on my head as a baby, it's amazing how much loving someone will allow you to forgive them.

Unfortunately there isn't much love between us. She doesn't like me very much unless she wants me for something. (When she didn't have anywhere to stay she was super nice to me, so I let her come stay in my spare room, the second she moved out she was nasty again).

Honestly though, I don't think she's going to care. Especially since the number one reason that my fiance and I decided to cut down to just one groomsman and one bridesmaid is to save money!!! Hopefully if I explain that she won't mind. And if I do it at a family do she can't go mental! (I'm kinda the family favourite 😀)

LOL...You're not kidding! I just got married last weekend. But I was in a similar situation. Just be up front about it. Beating around the bush can get messy. I asked a random friend to be my maid of honour, and wound up wanting my closest cousin to do it. I felt like an ass coming clean with her, and yeah, she got a bit upset. But it was my wedding and it was what I wanted. I appologized and she got over it. AND CONGRATS BTW!!!! WOOT! :cheering:

Haha thanks! And congratulations to you to! How was the wedding?

I guess I should just come clean as soon as possible, get it over and done with. The only problem is that she won't answer my phone calls at the moment because she owes me and my fiance money. So I could do it over facebook but it seems a bit cold. And then I have to wait for a response, which will be nerve racking!

Re:

Ew. Not fun. I agree that facebook would be a bit cold, as would an answering machine or email. But on the other hand, what choice is she really giving you? I'd leave her a message or two and let her know that you need to speak with her about the wedding. If she dosent call you back then....break up with her machine....
And yes the wedding was simple and lovely. On the water, small wedding party, beautiful weather. Couldn't have asked for a better day. Thanks for asking sweetheart. Do let us know how your wedding planning is coming along! What's the date? Or do you know yet?

Yeah we have a date picked out - it's not till 2011 though! We need heaps of time to save seeing as we're not very good at it! We're having an April wedding (which is Autumn in the land of Aus 😉).

We're getting married in a church, then having our reception at a restaurant called Frasers, which is at this place called Kings Park that overlooks the city and Swan River:

And it's going to be 1950's themed. I'm wearing a tea length dress, and we're going to have 1950's cadillacs, and me, my fiance and my dad are learning how to swing dance for the father daughter/first dance.

Re:

Wow hon, that sounds amazing! And that's a beautiful scene. I totally understand with the saving money thing. I love to spend money. DEF my favorite past time! LOL. And I had about 3 weeks to plan my wedding, so I cut as many corners as I could and went with simple. Honeymoon in Mexico. I'm really looking forward to that. Any honeymoon plans yet?

I have NO idea what I'm going to do for a honeymoon, it really depends on how much money we can get together. I wouldn't mind going to the US and Canada, but I don't know if it's do-able.

How come you only had 3 weeks to organise your wedding?

Re:

Apologies for the late response. Better late than never, right? The parental units were flying in for their anniversary so we decided to go ahead and do it while they were home. We ended up doing it on their anniversary. I didn't go all out for the wedding, it was pretty simple. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE to spend money...But there are plenty of other things I'd rather spend thousands of dollars on (the honeymoon for example). LOL. So simple is good. The wedding party had bouquets of Gerber daisies (minus the men!), and I chucked the heels right before the wedding march started and wound up doing the whole thing barefoot. LOL. I hate heels.
Being from the states myself, I find it strange hearing someone say they'd come to the states for their honeymoon. LOL. I want to GET OUT of the states. Let me know what you come up with! 🙂

So, if you havent told her yet, I think an easy way to let her down would be to give her a different job and tell her you think her abilites would better be used there. *shrug*
