Week 11: Turbulence

After Willow unearths giant Tibetan goddesses to help in the fight against Twilight and his disposable soldiers, the Slayers are forced to retreat when the goddesses go AWOL and attack indiscriminately. Without powers the Slayers are unable to keep up the fight against missile fire, grenade launchers, and tanks. It would seem that all is lost, and Buffy -- all alone -- must make her last stand on a battlefield covered in the bodies of friends and foes.

Series artist Georges Jeanty reunites with Buffy creator Joss Whedon for this very special Season Eight one-shot.

First of all I want to say how much I love the Jo Chen cover! I have the Georges Jeanty cover at home, but I cannot stop staring at the Chen cover! The power & ferocity of the goddess, and the beauty & vulnerability of Willow.

-Willow: “We brought war to a place of peace.” Oz: “It’s Tibet, Will. You’re not the first.” Reminds me of issue #1 where Rowena(?) says something to this effect to Buffy “You don’t know a lot about religion, do you?”
-Another temporal ripple. A lot of that going on in season 8.
-The Andrews sisters of death, LOL.
-I love Riley! Buffy: “Did they give you the most morphine?” Riley: “Plus a few shots of Jack, but I think I’m good to drive.”
-Such powerful elements in Buffy’s makeup: Giles, her trust. Faith, her guilt. I just watched 5x5 and Sanctuary so I’m really feeling that.
-Honestly, that does NOT look like a Faith shirt though. Looks like a Willow shirt.
-Xander: “Your one boyfriend who wasn’t a psychotic demon? I was always Team Riley.” It’s true, Xander had such a crush on Riley!
-“What about me?” I’ll reiterate that I don’t really think Buffy is in love with Xander. Or at least, whatever romantic feelings she might have developed for him this season have more to do with her loneliness, her lack of connection. She doesn’t even realize that she might have feelings for him until it’s too late. And considering the events that are to come, does she have true romantic feelings for him?
-Oh wow: “You went- through gay- to me.” Xander really nails her in this conversation. Sometimes he’s the one to pull the tough love.
-“Just diving right in to the P.D.A. there…” LOL!
-“It’s a Nuke.” “You’re a Dyke.” “You sacrifice a ‘key’”. LMAO!! There is sooo much funny in this issue!
-Hmm, what do I think about this military vest thing she’s wearing? Not sure, but it’s very Captain Jack-ish.

I also adore this cover. I pulled the issue out and just stared at it. For a few minutes. Taking in the use of color and the composition is brilliant. Like you said it really shows the power of the goddess and how Willow so small beneath it.

I just watched a documentary on Tibet. This is some real truth.

-Another temporal ripple. A lot of that going on in season 8.

Does that make you think of Doctor Who every time too?

I really do like Riley. He's a good man. And I'm glad that he tried to tell her that she's really making the best of this situation that she can, treating the enemy wounded and all that.

-Such powerful elements in Buffy’s makeup: Giles, her trust. Faith, her guilt. I just watched 5x5 and Sanctuary so I’m really feeling that.

I am approaching this episode on my rewatch and I'm looking forward to it a lot. Also love Twilight's "And your name WILL come back to me."

Haha, yes. So so Xander.

I don't think that she really does have feelings like that for him. I think that if anything had happened between them, then she would have regretted it and realized how she really felt. Then she'd have really just ended up hurting Xander more. He knew what was going down though and called her on all of it.
I'm not going to lie. I kinda wanted to punch Buffy at this part. I mean she would have punched back and I'd be dead, but I still wanted to. But Xander covers it at the end there with his, "Once you saw us together you should know the decent thing to do would be to keep it to yourself!"

-Hmm, what do I think about this military vest thing she’s wearing? Not sure, but it’s very Captain Jack-ish.

I love that little jacket. I want one! I totally didn't think about Captain Jack until you said that though and now it's another thing that now that I've seen it. I can never unsee it. But it's AWESOME. Love them both. 😀

-Another question for Buffy: WHY CAN YOU FLY???
-I'm sad that Xander is able to reference the Dixie Chicks. Oi.
-Aww, love the scene with Riley and Buffy. And Buffy's, "I guess blondes ARE dumber".

-Ok, so they're back to Buffy having romatnic feelings towards Xander? Pretty sure that's just because he's getting together with Dawn. (aoewrhawehger) I think Xander hit that one on the head. Buffy has always had Xander there as her best friend, and now Dawn is going to be the lady in his life, so she's worried about losing him in a way. So glad he put her in her place!!
-Um, should they be using the word "dyke"?? Yikes.
-So...burying the goddesses keeps them contained? That was easy enough. Should have tried that with Glory.

Again, with the over-the-topness...Buffy can fly? Really? The Dawn/Xander relationship is still freaking me out a bit.
