I sort of like where it’s going.
The setup with the vigilantes makes me wonder if that’s what the big reveal is going to be. My money is on the fact that Mal is a “traitor” to other Browncoats because he gave up the fight instead of continuing to fight with the Alliance. I feel like the reveal will be that there’s a small radical sect fighting an endless battle and they see everyone else as traitors for not doing so. Just my thoughts.
The crates are definitely not explosives and Badger has 100% given them some sort of illegal creatures or animals disguised as bombs so nobody peeks inside. Possibly even human trafficking. The bulletin in Chapter 10 is almost certainly referring to the crates and Badger knows it.
The Mal voice was definitely better this time. Only one short chapter, but it was better.
The only issue I had is that Zoë gets clues from a really convenient accomplice. The kidnappers have to be the dumbest criminals around, since they apparently set up a meeting and contract (several days before their meeting with Mal) with a freelancer to basically just ask him to deliver a note telling Mal go outside. Maybe someone can elaborate a little, but is the world of Firefly that convoluted? Why not just grab some bum the day of, give him ten credits, then say “hey go give this note to that guy in the trenchcoat”. Of course, this may be some big trap for Zoë too, but unless that is revealed this seems like a really dumb plot point to explain how she was able to find a single clue/lead.

I wonder how the kid and Barbara will tie into it all, since Jayne delivered him home and spent time talking to them, I am assuming they will reappear.
At first I thought they were gonna take him to the ship so Kaylee could have another insta-crush, glad that wasn’t the deal.
Zoe did t have particularly flattering thoughts about Walsh. It felt more like an outsiders pov on them.
I like your theory about the kidnap plot Plasma, I have to admit that I was rather distracted during these chapters and didn’t really engage with the plot.

I got that feeling. In the show their relationship is kinda ambiguous, to the point that I remember one episode had you thinking Jayne was going to mutiny until you realized he was just going to show Mal his super sick space gun.
As far as your second question, do you mean Zoë leaving Mal or Jayne? It did kinda strike me as odd that she told Jayne to take some random kid home, especially considering their captain just got nabbed by persons unknown
Yeah, it seemed weird when he was offered food and drink that he wouldn’t linger, even if Mal is missing.
It seems more like Jayne would take his time with something that serves him, and then get involved with the Mal drama only when he has to.
In the show he kind of had to be dragged into things (if it wasn’t something he was getting paid for, that is), and mostly intervened if directly provoked.

The storyline with Jayne and that kid with his mom felt a bit out of place and perhaps a bit out of character of Jayne to stay and seemingly care about the moms story.
Can only assume that it will pay off some way or another later on.

Enjoyed this section more than the previous one, I think it flowed better. However it feels a little too convenient at times, comes working, comma not working, easy to follow guy that doesn't notice a limping Zoe following him.
