Hm, I was reading the comments for one of the Buffy reviews, and it said that in his Eclipse reviews, he mentions the AR. In his Welcome To The Hellmouth review, where he writes what he knows of Buffy, he only says he knows that there's someone called Spike in it. So I searched up the Eclipse review...


Here's what he writes: By saying that Angel SPIKE (HOW DID I MAKE THAT MISTAKE WTF), from Buffy The Vampire Slayer, is a good person to look to wards to explain this, using a great quote from him towards Buffy in the 7th season.

Except...didn't Angel Spike try to RAPE BUFFY. LIKE. SERIOUSLY. ISN'T THAT A HUGE THING TO LEAVE OUT OF THIS. (Much props to Ashly for pointing this out.)


So... does he know about the AR? Did he leave it out of the 'what I know' thingy because he doesn't want to spoil other first-time watchers? Did he just forget? Damn, wish we could ask him about that, but I don't know if he reads the comments.

Oh, new review up: Lie To Me. Excellent episode.

When Angel asked Buffy if she loved him, I totally thought she’d say no. When she confirmed that she did, I was a bit bewildered. Um…they have kissed maybe twice? Haven’t they had like…ten conversations? They haven’t even spent an uninterrupted twenty-four-hour period together! Does she love him? Really? Then I started thinking that wasn’t really fair. Not everyone was a hopeless loser like me, so why judge others by the same standard. Perhaps different people have different feelings on the word! I can accept that!

But seriously, shouldn’t they….hang out? I mean, we genuinely haven’t seen them spend more than one full night together? IS THIS WEIRD OR IS IT JUST ME BEING ALL TRAGIC AND GAY AND STUFF?

He got to Surprise today. I can not wait till tomorrow when he reviews Innocence. I do feel bad for him because he really likes Jenny, and we all know what is going to happen in a few short episodes. I am really enjoying reading his reviews, it is so refreshing to read someones questions and view points who is so spoiler free.

I'm impressed with his iron will: he was able to watch Surprise, see the final cliffhanger and not start watching the next episode immediately.

Frankly, I expected him to write something along the lines "I wasn't planning to watch two episodes back-to-back, but I couldn't resist: I had to find out what the hell was happening..."

I'm glad that he likes BtVS and I feel bad for him, because his heart will be crushed in a few short hours...

Oh, I think Mark is acting very professionally in terms of making a transcript of his feelings about an episode *before* watching the next one then moving on etc. But you have to give the guy his due - he is enjoying playing with his audience as well, and he is giving it ( the audience) what they want - his seamless emotional response *as if* he never knew the spoilers. I suspect though he knows something at least. It is impossible , after all these years, and being active on the net to avoid spoilers.

(Have to comment on my personal experience here - I get hooked on the series by complete accident. Picked up a book in the bookstore casually - because it was in the fantasy section - it turned out to be the first Sookie Stackhouse novel and I liked it a lot, because it was well written, witty, southern ( I love the South cultural aspect in my books - it was a nice hookup to Gone with the Wind) and (me not ever having seen a bit of Buffy ) had this amazing 'novelty' concept of a conscientious vampire. All my previous vampire experience in lit and gaming always painted them as basically more dangerous variety of undead, DnD and all, and I do not really watch tv all that much. at least I was not used to watching tv. So I went and read more of Sookie books - and even started watching the tv series - and on about book 3 - I got bored of the whole setup and dropped both the book series and the tv show, because it was getting into the sex and blood for the sake of making you laugh out loud territory. But somebody online mentioned Buffy - I think it was in the reference to Sookie's hazardous love life and her telepathic ability. So, I went on the amazon and bought used Buffy dvd set... Now, I seriously wish I did not.

But going back to my personal experience - the first thing you get when searching refs on BtVS is , of course the shipping angle, and mooore future triangle references and all sort of 'exited' suggestions by various level excited peeps to the series newbie to watch out S2 and appreciate how lame it is compared to later seasons... and it completely failed on me as first time viewer. I am seeing the same pattern in the Mark forum and I can only lament all the exhalation and energy that many a commenter spend on lambasting S2 and its romance - because it sometimes has just the opposite effect. I wonder if maybe I never warmed up to certain characters exactly because I saw so many super excited fans pushing me to dislike my first loves, and like 'other connections' before I saw the end of the series? Probably not. But I just wanted to post this here as a personal experience that was disappointing.)

Buffy and Angel. I can’t deny it anymore. The two have this brilliant, furious chemistry that is absolutely necessary to make this episode work. I know I had my doubts earlier, but I’m ready to discard them now: these two love each other.

It’s not that I think either Angel or Buffy controls the other. The post-escape scene in Angel’s apartment is just an interesting contrast to what we’ve seen of the other vampire couple. The two are much more emotional, eager to touch and assure the other of how much they love one another. There’s an inherent pain to their relationship, as if two lonely souls are finally finding a solace they thought didn’t exist.

I hadn't been reading these reviews before, but I am just kinda in love with how this guy gets B/A.

There was a similar project a while ago: Arbitrar Of Quality was watching the whole series in 2005-2006 and writing about it at Alt.TV (I collected links to his reviews and comments here). And the more he progressed the more negative feedback became. So I think that later seasons will get much more criticism than earlier ones.

It's still just so hard for me to see Buffy struggle with a desire to talk to her mother, but have to hide her identity. And I know I am GAY GAY GAY projecting all over the place, but as someone who was in the closet until he was nearly nineteen, and then awkwardly unsure of how my own mother truly felt about me being gay, I can relate to this narrative so much. At this point in the show, I'm ready to just say that I feel most attached to Buffy, as her issues with identity and heartbreak are close to my own experience.

He's going to love the dialogue between Buffy and Joyce in Becoming pt. II in the kitchen

I love his analysis and reactions. I'm between thinking how awesome the stuff he's saying is, and then cracking up at how he articulates his responses to the show.

This gives us another one of my favorite scenes from “Killed by Death”: Cordelia doing research with Giles. She straddles this line of being utterly oblivious and then being more honest than anyone else in the room. The ongoing joke about Cordelia’s tact (and lack of it) is both funny and such an accurate depiction of her character. Yes, she can be rude, presumptive, and mean, but she has this biting sense of reality that she’s not afraid to vocalize.

I love how gets Cordy and how awesome she is. 😛

Oh...and his love for Willow too. But who doesn't love Willow? 🙂
