Because it's not so much about that but about how the company responded. It took them over a year to issue a statement. Even then the statement was half hearted and they didn't own up to their mistakes. Another way to look at it is there are plenty of other outlets which provide the same kind of food.

Statements are just PR technicalities. It didn't make the news over here, so this is the first I've heard of it. We have had similar stories though (of people having unexpected allergic reactions to food) but don't remember anything further than that.

Personally, as someone who has worked in the restaurant industry I know that mistakes are sometimes made, particularly in cheap venues, due to cheap labor meaning rapid turnover and lacklustre performance. Personally in order to excuse myself from any pending lawsuits I simply state to people with allergies/vegans that while the best care is always taken to ensure no meat/gluten/egg etc is in their food that I can never 100% guarantee that fact.

This actually makes me feel a bit vindicated though, as someone with fatal allergies I never eat anything pre-prepared or pastries that people bring to work and what not unless I can see a full list of ingredients, and I'm often told I'm overreacting. But, you can never be too careful and it is, at the end of the day, your responsibility. Sounds harsh, but it's true.

It's good at least that they've started to include a full list of ingredients on the label! I clearly won't go there, because I wouldn't trust them after reading this, but hopefully the labels will prevent further fatal reactions to their food.

Don't know about that. If you mean like pre-made from a grocery store, than you're probably right, but from a restaurant, than maybe not.

If its cheap fast food, you can near on guarentee that it has the footprints of bugs among it.

To be honest, I can see some allergies being of use to society, it promotes homemade responsibility.

I wonder how much of a wage people spend on fast food? Although I am aware food is more expensive here, a $5 coffee a day adds up to enough to feed a horse each week! And then if I got REALLY hungry, I could eat the horse.

I'm literally eating a takeaway sandwich this second. I'm on a full day of training and have the choice of letting food sit in the Australian sun for 4 hours or grabbing a takeaway.

I actually homemake just about everything these days including my own cordials and doing as much as possible from scratch. Obviously if I'm on holiday a 24 hour flight away this is nigh impossible, so grabbing food on the go is the only option.

While I don't think people should constantly rely on takeaway, I can understand why people occasionally but something for convenience.

I don't really have a problem treating myself to a specialized sandwich as a one off. Just like I would only go into Costa or one of those coffee chains every once in awhile. It only becomes a problem if you do it all the time (for your bank balance for starters😉).

Well it all depends. But I think most people would say these chains tend to be pretty pricey. Of course if you only do it once in awhile its going to work out quite cheap. I guess if you have a 9 to 5 job you are more likely to have a sandwich everyday.
