Were all the bringers mute, or did they just have their tongues removed?

I think they were just stubborn. Or they really didn't like Joss' script.

Did they have letters on their eyelids? or was it an x?
Cos if it was an x or cross, would they be cross-eyed?

The one that Giles and the Potentials captured had had his tongue "ripped out" (ironic that it was Ripper who made that statement), but that doesn't mean that all of the others were tongue-less. Back in Season 3, when the First Evil was trying to push Angel into committing suicide, I seem to remember Buffy finding a group of Bringers sitting around a fire, chanting. Maybe Giles just happened to lasso the one Bringer who had been punished for suggesting that Buffy really loved Angel rather than Spike.

I wouldn't put it past Caleb to have cut all their tongues out at this crucial stage in the war. He probably guessed that there would be a chance one would be caught, or maybe he just didn't want any backchat from them.

I think maybe the Bringers spent some time around Dawn (or Connor perhaps) and then realized how obnoxious a person with a tongue was capable of becoming, and cut out their own to avoid ever becoming like those who annoyed them.

LOL@Revolver...

I had forgotten that the bringers were chanting in Amends... Thanks for reminding us of that!

Although they might have been chanting in Amends, we can't say that counts out the fact that they were all mute - afterall The First could touch in that episode... I like to think they all had their tongues ripped out around about the same time that their eyes were lettered up.

Were the bringers human? If so where did they get their strength? And where were they found? I've always thought that the bringers were one of the most mysterious characters in Buffy.

They all forgot their lines, and in the end there wasn't enough time to guide them through. They all decided to just pretend they were mute

There was one episode where Buffy fought some people who, on examination, had Bringers' eyes, or lack of eyes, I guess, so Bringers must have been human at one time. Maybe they are another form of demonic halfbreed like vampires, human bodies inhabited by some
form of demon and imbued with their powers.

^And the high school students turned into bringer like people. They had their eyes all....bringerly

All thanks to thechosentwo!
Oohh I'm happy with that theory. Maybe even evil possession. Zombies are instructed by their leader so maybe in this case the leader just happened to be the first.

just finished watching "Never Leave Me" the Bringers are no joke. The attack at Buffy's house was quite swift and brutal.

Too bad they didn't kill Andrew...
