Were Willow, Giles and Xander useless in season 7?

I like how in 'chosen' they were all walking off to different rooms in the high school and it was left with the original cast like buffy, Xander, willow and giles and buffy was like 'so what do you guys wanna do tomorrow?' That bit made me laugh haha!
 
Pretty much in season seven, if you weren't 'chosen' , you were useless, bar a scene or through away episode that reeks of tokenism.

[MENTION=9583]crazysoulless[/MENTION]: yes, what Willow did to Buffy in S6 was bad. Really , really, really, really bad. But does that mean Willow should be a suck up to Buffy in this season, considering Buffy made alot of bad decisions with detrimental effects? Also, seeing a character regress back to who they were from season three without the Willow charms does not make for good entertainment or fascinating storytelling.
 
The problem with Season 7 is that Joss crammed enough stuff into it to make two good seasons. It's as if he had all these great ideas and plot twists, and was just determined to use them before the series ended.

Ya, I actually really like season 7, it had a lot of potential but fell a bit flat. For me it was the lack of resolution and continuity, they did have stories for Willow, Xander and Giles but decided not to use them.

1.Do a few episode where they show Willow grieving Tara, for Christ sake did she just forget her or something. We get the Killer in Me, which by the way is one of my favorite, but that's not good enough. They could have shown Willow struggle a bit more, have her friends be there for her you know. Also, I won't even get into the addiction storyline, that fell flat on it's face too.

2.Giles may not have been relevant much the past few years, but they are bringing in a bunch of potential slayer and you have a man there that is exactly qualified to be a trainer and yet it's Buffy that trains them. It's not because you're a good fighter that it means you're a good coach, get Giles to do the training, get him involved. Get the Scoobies to hug him when he gets there, I mean that was just a cheap storyline, no one would NOT have noticed if Giles didn't touch anything, come on the guy has to eat and go to the bathroom, he sits and sleeps, he would be shown touching something!

3. Xander, oh poor Xander, he's somewhat always been in the background so I don't mind him being in the backgroud too much, I kind of like him better in that role anyway. It is shown that the only reason he sticks around is for Buffy, even he knows he's not the most important. Only thing I would have done differently is include him in CWDP, it felt weird to have an episode without him...just not right.

there should definitely have been an episode mourning Tara properly. I mentioned elsewhere that it would cool to have a Xander/Anya scene in CWDP where a vengeance victim comes to haunt Anya. they could have cut the jonathan bits for this

You could say that about anyone tbh, even Buffy was fairly inactive for most of the season also... she never even bothered to ask Andrew about the seal etc until it started interrupting her job
 
They could have done a bit more with Anya and D'Hoffryn trying to have her killed. But they touched on it and then just killed her off at the end. Dawn and Xander were pretty much side characters the entire season. They had their heart to heart moment about being the only ones without power.

I hate that they made Giles into such a dick during the last season, going behind Buffy's back and not trusting her judgement. It was almost as bad as the episode that Giles drugs her back in season 2 or 3.

Willow was just Willow. She's one of my favorite characters but they really made her character out to be a recovering junkie. Even now in the graphic novels I shake my head sometimes at the things they make Willow say and do.
