Were you disappointed?

In Fear Itself, with the whole demon thing, were y'all pretty disappointed with the demon? I mean, they lead up to this whole thing and then it's like so small. I mean, it was funny, I can't deny that, but I found it quite disappointing that it wasn't like a full sized demon...Does anyone else agree? I doubt it...no one ever agrees with me xP

sorry, but i'm disagreeing. i thoght it was great the way they had this whole big build up, the demon seemed scary as helll...and then we find out that he's, like, 4 inches tall. it's a classic Joss thing to do, and i love him for going ahead with it.
i also love Giles' last line: 'Actual size.'

I think that was the whole point. All this stuff they were afraid of wasn't really that big of a deal--or at least, it was so unlikely to happen that they had no reason to be afraid of it. Once they saw the (tiny) demon causing their fear, they were able to laugh at it and move on.
 
Sorry Buffy obsessed fan, but I disagree too. I think it was a good contrast to a big bad like the mayor, who was actually big. Like size is no testament to how much chaos can be caused and how we let little things become big things until we realise they are just little things.
 
I wasnt disappointed, i thought it was a vey good idea. Going through hell and then finding out it was all done by this wee little demon, i thought that was so funny, and the demon seemed cute :biggrin:
But i can see how you were disappointed though
 
I'm agreeing with y'all know, since I watched it again last night, so never mind me being all...um...negative lol
 
Sometimes I get disappointed if a fight scene isn't what I was expecting and the demon is killed within like 2 seconds, but on this occasion I thought it was hilarious and a brilliant idea to make Gachnar that small 😀
 
I never noticed the last part before, with Giles reading the book and with the insciption thingy, totally funny 😀 xP
 
Yeah preferred the demon to be small, the anticlimaticness of it was hilarious, if it had been a normal sized demon it would have been pretty much run of the mill, seen one demon, seen em all
 
i gotta disagree. i thought making the demon miniscule was hilarious!! and it actually works for the message-- you think your fears a this great huge thing that can't be beaten, but when you face them, they're really just small in comparison and can be easily squashed. plus his high-pitched voice had me doubled-over in laughter. one of my now crazed buffy fans saw that for the first time not too long ago and i swear her face turned purple from the lack of oxygen she was laughing so hard...
 
that was a great moment...i also agree with everyone here.
I can see how you got dissapointed though.
the 1st i saw it i was like "ok, i didn't see that coming", but it was funny i guess.just another halloween in Sunnydale 🙂
 
I LOVED GACHNAR! Willow was right, he was very cute...I wanted to stick him in my little pocket.

I liked the whole episode. The episode first aired when I was 12 so, I didn't really like the episode because I loved the COOL FIGHT ACTION SCENES. Or the big DRAMATIC FINISHES. But now that I'm older, I really appreciate the episode....the only thing to fear is fear, itself...and fear is really easy squash. It's just something we all build up in our heads.

I'm glad you watched it again and liked it better!
 
Actually, I was sort of pleasantly surprised, but not in the way you might imagine. There was an old short story that I read years ago in a friend's collection of pulp magazines from the 30's that was very similar (minus the Slayer element, of course), that involved a message that a group of scientists on a remote island from a group of space aliens. The aliens were breaking their policy of not communicating with "primitive" civilizations to warn the people of earth that the "most dangerous predator in the universe" had been on a research vessel that had crashed on the island There was this big buildup where the scientists were scrambling around trying to come up with some way to handle the menace (the thought of "call in the Army" never occured to any of them), when someone noticed that the mascot cat had brought in this tiny mangled body... You can figure out the rest.
 
That episode amused me soooo much
His voice was the best
he thinks he's totally solid because he has all these fear-like powers and then squish

no more tiny demon

But it was a good play on the fact that fear seems huge and invincible til you actually face it and then it doesn't seem so important

which I'm aware has been said before, but it's true

Gotta go with the majority on this one. I loved the tiny fear demon. It was funny AND fitting. 🙂

My favorite part of the episode was Anya's bunny costume, though. Giles' chainsaw moment was also great.

I laughed for atleast 10 minutes, so no I can't say I was disappointed lol and the ending was hilarious too :lmao:
 
Personally I thought it was genuis! especially Xander..'who's a little fear demon!!:lmao:
 
Nope, wasn't disappointed at all, it was a great ending, even after the squishing theres Giles' "actual size" line, all good.
 
Not at all...It was very funny....i loved this episode. Anya made it more funny and then the part when Giles is reading the book about the demon and Buffy punches through the floor before he finishes.."destroying the symbol will ...is not one of the ways to stop the demon!" ((something like that)) then when it appeared! lol
