I have to admit that I thought Fred and Wes was the sweetest, most romantic pairing that just kept almost happening. She was sweet, warm and brilliant, and she babbled. He was like a little boy with his first butterfly, or lightening bug - completely entranced, and a total gentleman (not the heart cutting type). He told her that he had loved sine he met her - no - even before that. Kinda makes it seem like some sort of fantasy that's attached to Fred - that's all that loving someone who you don't even know exists is, just fantasy. Then both died tragic deaths - in the arms of the other. These were actually the most fulfilling moments between them - when they died.


Lilah was pure sin, and loved it. She was hot, daring, and completely amoral. Wesley was at his darkest time when she began to make overtures. Their hate sex started with him lashing out and grabbing her throat. But they were both consenting adults - there were no coy smiles, and sweet flutters. The sex was hot - they made sure of showing that. But the substance was also hot. They challenged each others morality and commitment, they tried to change each other, they called each other on their bullshit. I really think they were the most adult relationship in the B-verse - because they were so multi-layered. And they never trusted each other enough to lay their feelings on the line and find out if they could love each other.

Weslah for the win. Fred was too much of an accessory. Anyone that needed a coupling they could couple with Fred.

Weslah, especially having read Fred's return in the comics. It's clear that Wesley loved Fred for longer and far more intensely than she loved him.
Weslah was dark, hot, gritty, adult. It was great and I wish we'd gotten some more of it- or something- in S5. Think about Lilah as a senior partners liason, that' would've added so much to the (rather bland) Fresley courtship.

Although I will say that Wesley's commitment to Illyria probably kept her 'onside' long enough for her to be a key ally in the coming apocalypse.
I remember Lorne mentioning in S2 that Wesley will be 'a major player in the- well, that's by the by.' so that's probably what he meant, that Wesley would be Illyria's anchor towards the end.
