Question Wesley becoming a wizard

If they were going to keep Wesley alive and go into the sixth season, was he suppose to become a wizard of some sort? Because when he fought Cyvus Vail, that's the first time I saw him use magic.

He's done rituals before. Just not in a fight(unles you count the exorcism as a fight in season 1).

I think it's a part of watcher-training, to be able to do magic, since both Wesley & Giles have done spells/rituals.

That was the first time he used magic without a spell or words, but yes I do think if they were able to continue it he may have dove more into it. I was really shocked when he did it at the end. I really loved it. 😀

Wesley is watcher trained, intelligent and... also the freaking Man. He has the ability, know how and will to use whatever tool he needs to get the job done. He is the only Buffyverse character to regularly use guns, he is a excellent fencer, a cunning linguist and I've no doubt he can shoot off a few fireballs for queen and country.


I don't think it was a character change so much as an acknowledgment that Wes is essentially the 'Batman' of the Buffyverse. Given enough time he can figure out/do whatever he needs to do.


The more interesting point is why did he take on a wizard with sorcery? Probably due to security just to get into the building. Ultimately he was to over matched to stand up to Vail without more prep time.

I think he might've become a sorcerer given time. if Joss was really going to do a Road Warrior Angel season 6 then Wesley might need magic just to make it through the various fights.
