It is possible to be in a cute couple and not be childish. Me and my husband act "cutesy" together, but that doesn't mean we don't face real problems together in a mature way. It just means that on our downtime, we like to be mushy 😉

The problem with Wes and Fred is that not only are they annoyingly cutesy together, they do not know how to face their real problems (especially in regard to their personalities) in a mature way. I'm sorry, but they bore me. Plain and simple.

I like Wes and Faith. Yes, he loves Fred. But Faith? They share a darkness.

Fred and Wesley would have never worked. They "loved" each other for the wrong reasons. Fred simply wanted someone to love her. And Wesley was in love with an idealized version of Fred. Their love for one another was false and it would not have lasted.

But since the audience loved idealized romance, they saw Fred and Wes as perfect for each other. Fortunately, I'm one of those who can't stand idealized romance. I find it boring. Fred and Wes would have made great friends. But as lovers? Forget about it. The boring portrayal of their romance in S5 said it all.
