“What a Dream! What a weird dream that was,” said Buffy.
The ringing of the phone woke her up, Buffy heard Willow’s voice talking to her, she vaguely remembered hanging up the phone at the correct time. Because now when she thought about it she couldn’t think what Willow had said to her. Buffy’s concentration lay elsewhere. She knew the dream she had just woken from had some significance. She desperately wanted to remember the details of her dream. She leant from her bed in her pyjamas and telephoned Willow to ask her for her help, she wanted Willow to tell her if there was a way to help her remember or relive her dream. Willow told Buffy not to worry about it, if she needed to know about the dream she would remember it the same way the rest of humanity remembered their dreams.
“Later on when your mind is not live with the thoughts of what the dream was you might think of it,” stated Willow.
“About that, well about what you said when you rang me, what did you say?” asked Buffy. “I rang you to remind you what we and Giles are doing today. Driving to an agreed hotel where we are going to meet Wesley,” said Willow.
“We are, why?” asked Buffy.
“We are going to try and tell ourselves who created the slayer line. You do remember the part about Giles being here at eight forty five don’t you?” asked Willow. Buffy casually looked at the clock on the wall. “Eight fifteen! Oh crap.”
Two hours later Giles drove up into the driveway at Buffy’s house, when he had cleared the rear seats Willow and Buffy put their books on it ready for them to leave. As they were about to get in the car Buffy looked at her watch.
“Eight bloody forty five indeed.” Buffy mumbled some colourful words to Willow.
“Yeah sorry about that,” Willow started to grin, her grin fast stretched as wide as it could across her face and she flashed her eyes to Buffy, “I thought about it and admittedly it sounded funny in my head so I said it, I couldn’t resist it, sorry.”
At the hotel halfway to LA they met Wesley, he had prepared the room for them. They had just sat down at the table in the middle of the room when Buffy announced about the dream she’d had the night just passed. “It was about the Son of the Devil’s vampires in hiding, where they were and how to get them.”
“See, I told you if you thought about something else you’d probably remember,” said Willow.
Wesley sat at the table, he told them he would take as many notes as he could and whatever they thought was relevant. He watched as they joined him at the table. He asked Buffy to be precise with what she expected to discover.
Buffy sat back into her chair, thought about what she really wanted then stated that she sought answers to who or what had caused the slayer to be. Buffy said about the times she had died and been brought back to life, even those times when she thought there was no reason how she could have been. The first time had caused her much concern. How after a vampire had drained her then dropped her face down in water, she said she was glad Xander had saved her but she wanted to know how. Then there was the reasoning of what she was, because she had died another bore the title of The Slayer.
“Those things being so, why was I allowed to keep the abilities of a slayer, and to say that three men created the slayer line seems odd. If they had written it down it would have taken them several days to get all the clauses correct.”
Buffy wanted to know if there was more to being a slayer. Wesley looked at Willow he started to recall one of the teachers during his time at the training facility, she had welcomed peoples thoughts of what was and what could be. He remembered the teachers opening comment one of those days.
“It was about how a slayer would retain her strength, her knowledge and her abilities for all her life, that the slayer could live a full life to three times a score and ten more years unless a vampire killed her.” Wesley looked to Buffy, “And if that is true the master in his wisdom only took as much as he needed, he said that the slayers blood was much more potent than any other humans. He could have taken what he needed and left you for dead without the need to drain you completely.”
Willow added that it could have been a ‘ died from drowning’ incident. Buffy nodded to her in agreement.
“That may have been the reason but it doesn’t explain how I kept the slayers attributes. To my way of thinking there has to be more,” said Buffy.
Willow looked to Wesley wanted to know if he had any notions on who The Powers That Be are?
“Personally I see them as a coven of seriously powerful witches, wizards and sorcerers who have taken the craft to an infinite possibility,” said Willow.
Wesley looked to each of the three of them, he was thinking about what had just been said. “It could be the Powers That Be running the slayer line except for one thing, and I’m not sure about this but was the slayer created first and that being so was the slayer created in case there was evil in the world. Or was she created second because there was evil in the world? The same thing could be asked of the ultimate evil did that come into being as a result of the slayer.
“Or if we say that another way,” Willow grinned to Buffy, “To put the first option as the one that was, the slayer may have been the first human on earth. The second option would have the first slayer up against as many demons as there are now,” Willow looked at Buffy and flashed her eyes, “You slacker.”
“What, me?” Buffy exclaimed and poking her tongue to her she gave Willow the middle finger. “You can’t blame me I am only here as the acting slayer because the actual slayer, Faith, has other things to think of.”
Buffy faced Willow and mulled over in her mind what Willow’s last comment was. “You do have a point though, about the slayer being the first human on earth. That would mean she was one of God’s creations. I don’t pay any heed to the Devil being the ultimate evil as I see that as a non-corporeal entity. As far as my memories go God caste out one of his Angels and that Angel became the Devil. That would infer the Devil is a corporeal being so if the Devil created a son, the Son could be non-corporeal,” said Buffy.
“Yeah, about that,” stated Giles, “There is some thought about that, a battle has been running alongside what we have experienced. A battle between good and evil and according to my source that battle will be coming to a head soon she, my source has it that another hellmouth might be getting active soon.”
