Yes but isn't Buffy saying that shes the one who has been doing all the work, not that shes active just that she has saved alot of people, the world. She is just saying for them to win there has to be death on each side.Buffy maybe not be the last called Slayer but I would say she has done the most. I think she was just explaing how they get called and it was her then Kendra then Faith. I think shes still sore about Kendra. Buffys the teacher shes done the most so she has to leave it raw am guessing, rip the plaster from the cut. Shock me shock me factor .

I don't think Buffy likes to think about Faith and that she is The One know taht Buffy has already passed on the slayerness. She's just in denial.

Or maybe, the writers forgot that when Bufy died, no other slayer was chosen, so they just write that Buffy's The Slayer who will pass the legacy on, not knowing that Buffy's "lying". Or maybe Buffy wanted to win the potentials trust and had to lie.

Or maybe, there's a third "original" slayer out there. That sounds like a good "tales of the slayers vol 2"-story.

And it does help us have things to talk about lol... but i am sure the comics will answer these questions in time but then they will no doubt pose even more questions just to keep us hanging on for answers 🙂

There's also the argument that when Willow ressurected Buffy in Bargaining, she had to create a brand new Buffy - her body had rotted away. This re-creating of Buffy at a molecular level caused the slayer line to be forced back through her. Kendra and Faith were always the anomaly - if they hadn't been, Buffy would have been a normal girl (or at most a potential) upon resurrection.

This is, of course, never outright stated, but it seems to be the disruption in the Slayer line that made the First's plan possible - and why it went after Faith long before Buffy. If Faith had been Ms Active Slayer, her death would have caused another to be called, and the First definately didn't want that.

Luvmuffin! Scott La Rock is either psychic or he has a knack for trouble, because I was discussing that very same thing earlier this week. I must give you credit for that. Even when Xander brought Buffy back she should have been 'normal' if the Slayer trait was passed from her.

...and who's been saying this for months now? (hint: user name starts with initials I.M. :p )
I think that it is even if all the potentials are dead and then faith is killed there can't be another one called anyways because all the potentials are dead. i think that the reason buffy would be last is because buffy, although not the called slayer, is still the more powerful of the 2. also buffy is the one with the master plan, if the first eliminates everyone else there is no one left for buffy to create a plan for. buffy is one of the those do it all right away people, i think if it were up to faith the potentials wouldn't even become slayers. i think faith would run away and then hunt down each one of the ubervamps at once.

But then why would The First try to kill Faith before all the potential's were dead? "Better the devil you know", and all that. It wouldn't have wanted a new slayer, so it must have known that the line was running back through Buffy.

How Buffy knew this, however, is a mystery. I don't see them working it out from that.

Not all Slayers Chosen are Potentials. Buffy wan't a Potential before she became the Slayer, so, even though they were gathering all the Potentials to Sunnydale, if, God forbid, something did happen to Buffy or Faith, there's no guareentee that the next Chosen One would be one of the Potentials in their care.

Why do you think Buffy wasn't a potential? And wasn't all potentials chosen at the end of Chosen? All 1800-ish? Which means that even if the schyte spell hadn't worked and faith died, one of the 1800 potentials would have been chosen?

Btw, was it 1800 new slayers? I can't remember.

I think what they meant was Buffy wasn't trained by a watcher from like the age of 11 when most of the potentials were found. Remember what Kendra said? Her parents gave her to her Watcher at a very young age and from there on out she was trained whilst in waiting. For Buffy and Faith they were wild cards, they were technically Potentials they just hadn't been found.

When the Slayer before Buffy died the power went straight to Buffy and somehow the Watchers Council had to quickly find her and she was basically thrusted in to the world of fighting and Slayer life. The same for Faith which is also a reason why she was so damaged and mentally unstable through all the crap she went through before she was a slayer. At the end of Chosen Buffy chose to share her power with all Potential Slayers that not only were with her in Sunnydale but every other Potential in the world that The Coven and Bringers hadn't found.

Most likely as well if Faith dies another Slayer would have been called as far as I've taken it the Slayer line has been disrupted to the point where it either now runs through Buffy and Faith or its back to Buffy or still with Faith. Either way a new Slayer would have been called out of all the Potentials in the world if they hadn't used to the Scythe but its all so murky its hard to tell and come to an easy explaination over the Slayer line especially now there is so many of them.

But to answer the intial question of this topic I don't think you can count Faith as true Slayer. I mean shes not really Miss Perfect in the way of being a perfect Slayer, she murdered people mostly of her own choice. She let the power corrupt her and screwed with Buffy's life, although shes making amends now. I don't think shes truly ready to face being a Slayer 100% like the way Buffy is with being a leader, we all saw how Faith tried being a leader and she wasn't fully comfortable. In my eyes that makes Buffy the true Slayer, even Spike said it shes on a Slayer shes The Slayer, the one who so far has done the most out of any other Slayer in the line.

Buffy may not be the 'active' slayer in terms of the slayer line, but I think she feels that the burden it has placed on her from the age of 16 and the extra responsibility she has had, combined with all the pain and suffering that come with the job gives her the right to preach about it.

If she did ever think that i'd say she was right, Faith may be the chosen one at the time but chosen one or not Buffy was always the one who had to make the tough choices.

Also I've always seem part of the message of season 7 being 'Ok childhood is over, your an adult now' and part of being an adult is letting go of the notion that good will always triumph over evil and all will live happily ever after, in the 'real'/'adult' world good may very well triumph over evil but it takes sacrifices, cold, horrible but necessary sacrifices and I think thats what Buffy is trying to tell everybody in the room at that time.

It's very possible that Buffy wasn't aware of the fact Faith was considered the active slayer...and besides, it gives her more credibility in the eyes of the Potentials to say she's the active slayer...

Yep, this is what I meant. Obviously Buffy was a Potential, but she wasn't a Slayer-in-Waiting like Kennedy, Kendra, Vi, etc. She was just a girl who had the Potential who had yet to be found.

Okay, that makes sense. I thought you meant that she was different in some way.

Hmm.. can I buy a vowel? I have an idea but not quite sure yet.

Well, if you have been saying that then I give you credit for at least agreeing with me.
