Okay, this may seem like a really silly question, but I'm famous for serious questions. What are we, as in what is our official title as fans of either/or Buffy, Angel, Firefly/Serenity, or simply all things Joss? Back when Star Trek was the prevalent cult classic, we were called either "Trekkies" or "Trekkers" (I always preferred the latter, but that's not the point here). To be called "Scoobies" or "Slayerettes" just doesn't seem quite right, and "Watchers" is just too vague.

So...what are we? Is there an official name that I've somehow missed, or should I really be worrying about such a trivial thing. And, if there is no official name, would you want one, and, if so, what?
 
Go to my school and apparantley I'm a 'Freak who is really gay because I like Buffy'. Boy do I hate school. Anywho, getting over my need to smash the computer 😛 Um, I don't really know, I just class myself as...well I don't know, um...yeah, this is getting no where 😛
 
lol i never get called anything for watching Buffy infact everyone i ever talk to likes the show ok they aren't like really know everything crazy about it but yeah
wouldn't know what to call us other than dedicated...
 
i'm not even gonna attempt to mention what we got called at a recent Con, on account of, i don't wanna be banned!!

i never really thought about it before...i know Serenity/Firefly fans are called Browncoats...i just spent a weekend with a bunch of 'em. but Buffy/Angel? i got no clue. but i think it'd go with Scoobies. i like it! :lmao:
 
One aging woman, a casual acquaintance, started avoiding me because I mentioned Buffy. A friend told me this witch said I'm trying to recapture my youth and it's so sad. Yes, it's so sad that I look 20 years younger than her and she's 5 years younger than me.

Anyway, I never really thought about what we are. But this I know. We are a special group of people, elite even. We should just have initials like the SWAT or SAS. Well, ours doesn't have to mean anything.
 
Interesting how people catergorize other people based on one aspect of a person. For example, people calling us "freaks" and wanting to have nothing to do with us simply because we happen to like one of the most popular SF/F shows of all time. It makes me wonder, who are they to define us based on a preference for a single TV show? I don't "define" myself as a Buffyphile (I've decided that's my favorite), usually. I'm a student, a graduate assistant, a wife, a Feminist, and many other things that make up who I am, but I don't "define" myself by any single one of these. It makes me angry when people attempt to do it for me and base their entire opinion of me on one aspect of my personality or preferences.
 
Well, if the Firefly/Serenity folks think of themselves as "browncoats," we could be "Blackcoats," cause Buffy, Spike, and that other vampire seem to favor them so much. Even Andrew wore one in one episode (what ever happened to that coat, anyhow? We never saw it again, unless Spike confiscated it as a spare.)
 
People at school seem to enjoy calling me "that Buffy freak" I actually have no orblem with it and one of my teacher's is a major fan so we have long debates over who likes it more! I am currently the reigning champ!
 
Well I am reading this great book called "Will THE VAMPIRE PEOPLE please leave the lobby?" And the quote is from a Buffy con when a hotel manager was very frustrated at all of the buffy fans so he asked it THE VAMPIRE PEOPLE would leave the lobby. So other than that I think we should just be called Scoobies because then you feel all part of the gang and everything. It is also a really great book so I highly recommend it. (its by Allyson Beatrice)
 
i like 'buffy freaks' mainly because it's an accurate descriptive of most of us and its also a nice connection to the show in that cordelia and the other 'in' crowd type people at sunnydale high reffered to buffy and her chums as freaks.
 
My friends laughed at me when they saw all my buffy novels, boxsets etc! and they still act like i have some form of fatal illness that they are afraid they will catch if they watch Buffy with me!! which I suppose is kinda true! I like scoobies, heard us describes as Whitehats before too, you know if you wanted to go with whole coloured clothing thing like Firefly
 
i think that calling us 'scoobies' would be the best option, however, only fans of the show would know that we are talking about buffy and not scooby dooby doo.

having said that, i vote for something more toward the title of the show: "Slayers."

it has mpf. its got zazz. its manly (and womanly too). but most importantly, its unique.

Oooh, I think Scoobies sounds the best, or Whitehats, either way...😛 Anywho, thinking back over this, people who know I watch the show and don't ridicule me, tend to call me Buffy, but I don't think we could all be called Buffy 😛

Hey, I get that. I got introduced to my group of friends years ago as the girl who liked Buffy. They didn't quite catch my name, Lana, and so took to calling me Buffy and now it's stuck! haha. I like it though (what Buffy fan wouldn't?) hehe.
Do we have to have a name? I mean, I just call myself a Buffy fan or a Joss Whedon fan. If we do have to have a name, then I think Slayerettes or something like that is best. Oooh - or maybe "Potentials." I also liked the idea of being called "Watchers." Or maybe something completely off the wall and funny, like "Pointies (as in Mr. Pointy)" or "Gordos." Okay, maybe we don't want to call ourselves pointy or fat. "Fan" works just fine for me. 🙂

Maybe I'm just jealous. I've watched General Hospital for more than 20 years, and we GH viewers don't get a cool nickname. Talk about being embarrassed or judged -- try telling someone you're obsessed with soaps! My husband is embarrassed every time we go through a checkout line and I see a soap magazine. Watching Buffy is slightly weird, but it aired on primetime, so it's more acceptable. Admitting to watching and loving a daytime soap is the social equivalent of admitting to reading Harlequin romance novels! I do get a name for one obsession, though: I am a true blue Janeite. Not even the mighty Joss can touch the glory that is Jane.

Not sure what the term is for someone who just likes Buffy, but I associate this board with the show so they become more or less one and thereby I've always just used BB.
 
I think someone once said that people who love all Joss Whedon shows (Buffy/Angel/Firefly/in the future Dollhouse) are 'Whedonites'. Actually, I think it was my english lit professor....
But I like the 'Scoobies' thing or 'Potentials' like palabravampiress said. Or even cooler like someone else said on here 'Slayers'. That name has power right there.
I mean we have subgroups for Buffyfans for shippers (like Bangel Shippers etc) so maybe it is time we got a tag title. hehe. But until we settle, I'll cope with 'Buffy fan' hehe
 
How 'bout "The Sunnydalers?" It's EXTREMELY related to the show and I like it! Lol.

- TC (Or we could just all call ourselves "The Chosen." 😛 JK, of course. Or am I?)
