The OP mentioned addiction to dance and I go dancing three nights a week. I like merengue and love bachata. My routine is Miss Bachata & Miss Salsa at the legion building in Port Credit on Monday, Lago's in Woodbridge on Wednesdays and The Capitol, a reception hall just off Runway 23R at Pearson International Airport. At some point soon, we may transition to Lakefront Promenade, an outdoor venue on the Lakeshore for Friday. I used to go as much as five times a week with the Fregata on Thursdays and Grand Luxe or The Old Mill on Saturdays but the Fregata is not all that friendly and is too small for the number of people they get and the Saturday venues are expensive. In the past I have danced at other locations, bringing my venue total to 14.
My Trinidadian girlfriend has introduced me to wind up / wind down moves for merengue and I have introduced her to bump-within-a-wrap moves in bachata, so we get a lot of attention when we are dancing. And since both of us are born under the sign of Leo, we love the attention. Just get me started with "Bailando Bachata" by Chayanne and I am happy.
The people are interesting and you get a good cross section of society from my girlfriend who retired from teaching cooking and cake decoration to one woman who has a Ph. D. in computer science and is the manager of software development for Motorola worldwide. The guy who got me into the Latin dance circuit is a hairdresser who retired from his salon to do part time work as a mobile hairdresser for shut-ins and hospital patients who do not want to meet their maker looking like a sheepdog, but mainly he makes his money as a landlord and he is currently worth about $ 2 million.
