For years if I liked a show I used to stick with it long after it became dull or just plain bad, and there were shows where I was enduring rather than enjoying them like

Later seasons of Burn Notice, Homeland, ER and Rescue Me

I think Supernatural after S5 was the worst because it would always have a good run of episodes each season and I really liked the characters but just as I got my hopes up that it was back to its best it would then have a run of really dull eps. And I would never learn and kept going back to it

@spikenbuffy I stupidly stuck it out for all 15 seasons, but it had turned into more of a soap opera than a drama by the end - kind of comfortable and familiar but also a bit dull

La Brea. I loved Lost and it promised to have that vibe. And in a way it does, with some interesting plot developments. But ugh, the writing is so bad! Trite conversations, endless empty opposition among characters, too much family drama, and too many obviously stupid decisions. I feel like my eyestalks are going to break with rolling every time I watch it. And yet, I keep watching because it seems like it could be a better show, if they'd only put a little more money into the writing of it.

I've also stuck with a couple other new shows that might not otherwise have enticed me, just because the writing is good. I think watching Buffy has made me more aware and critical of the writing in shows!

Just finished Doom Patrol season 2 recently. It was honestly one of the worst tv series I have ever seen.

It was just a soap opera with the main characters sitting around, not doing anything, filled with the most infantile shit. The episode with the Ghost orgy was so appalling I actually turned it off.

What's worse though is that the character development isn't even any good. It's not like they sacrifice having really exciting adventures for great dynamics. FFS the characters haven't budged an inch since season 1 and also they rarely interact with each other. It's usually just them on their own being involved in a stupid sub plot. It fails across the board.

The first series of Doom Patrol was okay. It had a good pilot, but it lost it towards the end. I thought those were just problems with working out the first season, but it seems they thought "lets take those problems and make them the entire show."

It was quite painfully bad to be honest and the fact that they have added Michelle Gomez (Pissy Missy) in season 3 doesn't fill me with hope. She can be a good actress don't get me wrong, but given the quality of this turd fest, this will probably just highlight all the worst things about her Missy performance to the 11th degree. Gomez is one of these people who I think is as good as the production she is in. If its great she is like Gotham, if its bad then well you get Missy!

Still either way I won't be watching. To be honest Gomez and for that matter Mark P Shepphard deserve better than this stinking pile of horse shit.

The Book Of Boba Fett: Makes The Mandolorian (a pretty below-average sci-fi show) look like a masterpiece in comparison. This show is incompetently written, dull, aimless and cheap-looking. Worst of all Fett seems genuinely dumb, if not maybe just brain-damaged (Sarlac Pit?) because of his current actions. For example he seems to think that he was 'rescued' by Sand People whereas actually he was enslaved, brutalized and almost killed. Another one; he seems to blame other people- his employers- for his near-death experience in RotJ instead of his own carelessness/stupid malfunctioning jetpack.

This show needs better script-writers and fight-choreographers, its embarrassing.

@TheMaster666 : Star Wars is Space Opera, which is a subgenre of sci-fi.
Sci-Fi is a broad church- much like fantasy- and Star Wars, with its space ships, ray guns, planets and aliens, easily qualifies.

What are you hate watching?

My mother moved in with me last year. She's retired and stays home a lot, and loves to rewatch old episodes of this old as dirt TV show from the 50s called The Honeymooners. She literally watches the same 10 episodes over and over. I feel bad because she always wants me to watch it with her, and I know she wishes I loved it as much as she does but it just doesn't appeal to me.

But I guess she probably feels the same way about me rewatching Buffy, lol.

The new season of Euphoria is pretty bad. I think the show has run out of ideas, and has become mostly style over substance. Its hard to root for any of the characters outside of Lexi at this point. Oh and they've just introduced a second love triangle storyline 😵

Also not too engrossed with the new ITV thriller series Trigger Point. Its all a bit plodding and there's not enough to the plot or characters to make me care too much. Because its ITV its quite low budget as well which doesn't help. There are moments where it looks like it might pick up...

I enjoy ticking off horror boxes and wouldn't say I regret watching the Wrong Turn films, but I can't say its enjoyable either😉.

Land Girls, Season 3

This was never a great show, but watchable enough. But the last season developed a real mean streak toward the characters. Did the writers forget that viewers like these people?

I don’t regularly watch it, but when I want a good laugh I throw on Riverdale.

It’s so absolutely terrible, and I’m not even done with the first season. Where do I even begin? Betty going insane and pouring maple syrup on a guy’s head, shouting, “You killed me,” whilst roleplaying as her sister?! Or the fact that Archie and his music teacher, atrociously named Miss Grundy (sister of Solomon, I presume), have an illegal affair going on that is wrapped up in a murder investigation?!

I can’t even fathom this lunacy, let alone the nonsense that happens in future season. A cult that harvests and sells organs on the black market? A weird infectious plague that disappears and is never mentioned again?? A cult leader who dresses like Evel Knievel as he attempts to escape by rocket ship??? The Gargoyle King?!?

At this point, the Disney+ Star Wars shows.

I gave up on their Marvel content, and I’m just about there with these shows too. They feel like 2 hours of story (maybe!) stretched out unnecessarily into 6 hour blocks. Extra “nausea points” to the online discussion around these shows that just say “OMG did you see (character) cameo, dude?!?”

At this point it feels like the brand is just slowly dying. I loved Last Jedi & Rogue One, and their expanded universe stuff with the comics and books is fantastic, but at this point the main content (TV & movies) have just devolved into pathetic fan service groveling. I’d respect them more if they did something new that was bad instead of just resorting to character cameos and reprisals of old content.

I can relate. As with Star Trek before the advent of Discovery and, at long last, gay characters (!!!), I've gotten fed up with Marvel Studios attitude toward LGBTQI+ representation and so I'm giving their product and content a wide berth. DC's television series are way better at being inclusive. I don't think I do hate watching, though. I do hate reading instead. It involves reading something whose opinions and rhetoric you despise and then thoroughly analysing and dissecting it afterward. I suppose it's a legacy of my social science training.

Clone Wars, Rebels, and The Bad Batch are all better than anything Star Wars related released after the original trilogy, by a wide margin.

Mandalorian is a good show but Boba Fett and Obi-Wan sucked.

Prequel trilogy sucked so bad, sequel trilogy somehow sucked even worse.

Rogue One and Solo are okay. Nothing special but not offensively bad like TFA, TLJ, or ROS.

Bad Batch is mostly standalone, the arc in season 7 of Clone Wars helps but they do explain a lot up front as well.

Bad Batch is the easiest to get into but probably the weakest of the three shows (so far). With Clone Wars it helps to look up the chronological order and watch it like that rather than in airdate order. For several reasons many episode in the first four seasons aired out of order and it can be jarring.

Just know that, with both Clone Wars and Rebels, each season is stronger than the previous one. By a lot. With season 7 of Clone Wars being about as good as Star Wars has ever been.

As far as TLJ, I just can't co-sign on that:
-The entire casino subplot was completely stupid and pointless. Just a 20 minute sidebar in the movie that went absolutely nowhere and brings up way too many questions, not the least of which is why the best codebreaker in the universe would be in that cell to begin with when he could've presumably escaped at any point.
-Killing off Snoke without an explanation as to who or what he was was stupid. There was zero payoff to anything they set up in Force Awakens, including the Knights of Ren.
-The conflict between Holdo and Poe is stupid and pointless and could be resolved with a 10 second conversation
-The Force Dyad between Kylo and Rey should mean that Kylo could locate her, and therefore the Resistance, at any point, forever.
-Much like how JJ Abrams kept doing to Star Trek (transwarp beaming, curing death) they didn't think through the consequences on the rest of the franchise of ships now being able to be tracked through lightspeed. If the First Order knows where they are and what direction they're going in, and they only have a limited supply of fuel, then the First Order should easily be able to destroy all of them at the same time. The low speed chase, destroying one at a time, has literally zero coherent in-universe explanation. And it's pretty much exactly as stupid as the Star Destroyer in that recent episode of Obi-Wan somehow not being able to catch or destroy Ice Cube Jr's crippled ship in the time it took Reva to fly all the way to Tattooine.

I could keep going on. It's just a really, really dumb movie when viewed in a vacuum. And it's way, way dumber when you look at it in the context of what came before and after it.
