What Are You Reading #2

Going to try and get my library loans read, so first up finishing, Glass Town Wars by Celia Rees.

I read a lot of her books when I was younger, and wanted a shorter easy read, but so far I'm not that into it.
 
Finally went and finished Leviathan’s Wake, the first of the Expanse series. I’ve had it for a good long while and have always meant to get to it.

Ended up being a pretty good book, even if not everything connected with me. I’m on Caliban’s War now

I read the first six books and enjoyed them, but book seven had a major time jump in it from the previous book and I just found it hard to get into. It felt like stuff was missing.
I burned through every book published by Alexandria Bellefleur since my last posting and am currently a third of the way through the Rubinrot/Edelstein trilogy by Kerstin Geir. (Also, I'm not dead!)
 
Going to start out this year's reading with A Fire Upon the Deep by Vernor Vinge.

This is a first time read for me and has been on my need to read list for a while now.
 
Just finished The Reboot by Justin Taylor. It's about a man whose biggest acting role was as a teen on a show described as "a mash-up between Dawson's Creek and Buffy the Vampire Slayer," who is now attempting to reboot the show. It was a good book, full of pop-culture references and current zeitgeist, and I enjoyed the occasional references to Buffy!
 
I'm trying to get my unread pile on my kindle down, so starting Bridget Jones's Diary.

Also still on The Count of Monte Christo, and There Are Rivers in the Sky
 
I just finished a good book called "Cahokia Jazz" by Francis Spufford. It's a detective novel set in an alternate-reality 1920's US, in which Native Americans control this one state called Cahokia, and the crime involves a conspiracy against their government.

I've been on an audiobook kick for months of listening to beloved book series that I can listen to without minding if I lose my focus, because I already know them so well. I finished the Harry Potter books on audio (not Stephen Fry, alas), all of Jane Austen, and now I'm listening to the Laura Ingalls Wilder books.
 
I'm doing good with my reading challenge to read (at least!) a book a month. I just finished Tampa by Alissa Nutting (good book but not for the faint at heart!). I'm about to start Disney High: The Untold Story Of The Rise And Fall Of The Disney Channel's Teen Empire by Ashley Spencer, which I'm really excited about.

 
Just got My Sister Milly by Gemma Dowler, from the library.

I think anyone that was in the UK in the early 2000s would remember the murder of Milly Dowler
 
Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein. It's a first time read for me.

I read that as a kid! As an adult, I look back and go not appropriate really for a pre-teen. :D

As a kid, I read a lot of Golden Age SF and books by Golden Age authors. Stranger, and late-era Heinlein - The Number of the Beast, The Cat Who Walks Through Walls and To Sail Beyond the Sunset - are books that, in retrospect, were not really that suitable for my age. But I had an adult library pass before hitting double digits, so... 😀 Not that I really sought out things back then. (Unlike now 😀)
