What are you reading right now?

"The Guns Of The South," by Harry Turtledove.

It's a "history with a twist" novel about the Confederate Army being supplied with an amazing new weapon: the Russian AK-47 assault rifle. I just started it, and, so far, no explanation as to how 20th Century arms traders are operating in the 1860's, but it is definitely an interesting story so far.

I haven't read the book but I enjoyed the show although I found it a bit depressing, the performances were excellent. I don't know if the book is the same, but the show doesn't come to any firm conclusions

I started reading Night Shift by Charlaine Harris. She's not the most wonderful writer ever, but I'm enjoying the series for mindless entertainment value.
 
Hopefully this is a judgment-free zone 😉

I'm re-reading a Twilight fanfic that I keep hoping the author will turn into original fiction; sooo much better than Shades (not that that would be difficult). Anyway, it's called A Pound of Flesh and this is probably the 10th time I'm reading it 🙂

No, I don't. "A Pound of Flesh" is an... interesting title though. Haha, especially compared to Shades...

Also especially interesting when you're re-reading Candide where a pound of flesh is more like cannibalizing women's buttocks, leaving them with only one! I imagine that's not the pound of flesh your fic is talking about. 😀

Nah it's a quote from The Merchant of Venice and the story itself is about paying a debt that's owed.

@Foxy - It took me awhile to get into it but now I quite like it. Its a slow book. If it were in the hands of a different writer it would be boring but Margaret is such a good writer that she pulls you in and keeps you interested. I've heard that some people find it a bit confusing, since its like a novel within a novel within a novel. But, I have had no trouble keeping straight where I am in the story at all. I'm finding the parts about The Blind Assassin the most interesting but I'm also so curious to find out more about Laura, how she came to write the book, etc. And I do like Iris, she is a good narrator, if a bit frustrating at times.

I found the first 30 pages confusing but then I started to understand the structure. I haven't read the Blind Assassin!

No Need for sorry, but please expand because I have no idea what you are talking about. If it is the fact that sheep eat a lot of shrub and plants then we know the reason they like to graze in open fields and then leave plants and all trees in peace. Unfortunately, humans take away their land and so, @Mr. Pole, tip your hat that you don't have and the rest is understood.

It was indeed a reference to "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep", which I have never read but have on my reading list.

(And while I do understand why you say weapons are not awsome, I keep failing to wholeheartedly feel the same. Hitting a target (and no, I do not mean killing a human) when shooting can be great. And I once held a perfectly balanced, Japanese katana. The skill required to make such a blade is impressive. I'll never forget the feeling of that sword in my hand.)

I am reading through James Joyce's Dubliners today. I've read a couple stories before, but this is my first time reading the whole thing. It is quite short, so I plan to get through it all.

First two stories have heavy overtones of pederasty and paedophilia. Why can I never read nice things 🙁

"Araby" is great, though. "Her name was like a summons to all my foolish blood." Hey! Is this written by William Pratt?

The hundred year old man that climbed out of the window and disappeared. It's this months book group one and so far I'm enjoying it.
