What Are You Reading?

I was reading The Alchemist, but I finished that in a day or two. It was excellent. I love that kind of fable-esque storytelling. It wasn't exactly the life-changing experience people describe it as, but it definately gave me something to think about. It dealt with religion very well, also.

At the moment, I'm trying to continue reading The Reader, but I'm lacking in time... I also started Run, Rabbit, which I quite liked. Then I plan to move onto Love in the Time of Cholera.
 
^^I thought that about The Alchemist too...very interesting but it didn't turn my world on its axis.

At the mo I'm reading I Could Read The Sky...it's good but very very morose. I can only read so much at a time because it's just plain sad...really conveys loss well.
 
Death's Daughter by Amber Benson - not great, but not as bad as I thought it would be.

The Tales of Beetle the Bard by J.K. Rowling - adorable little stories as were featured in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Earth, Air, Fire, and Water by Scott Cunningham - informative book about the elements as used in magic. It's really coming through for me as research for my personal writing project.

Blood Lines: Vampire Stories from New England by various authors - trying to keep up with historical hysteria.

I loved Beedle. They were so....real, you know? Like actual stories, rather than fictional constructions of stories. The Hairy Heart was horrible!
 
I finished Death's Daughter last night. On the plus side, it had enough drive to keep me reading until I was done. On the bleh side, all the other things I complained about earlier continued through the end of the book.

I'm gonna start on The Black Unicorn by Terry Brooks, and The Hobbit for my literature class.
 
Math through the Ages: A Gentle History for Teachers and Others.....I've got a History of Math class....

Fiction though I have been reading The Gunslinger by Stephen King. This is my second time through the Dark Tower series, trying to see if I missed anything the first time thorough

Alex James is kinda funny, but mostly pretentious. I'm quite enjoying it, as I too, am a pretentious bastard.
There's some interesting stories in it. I'm a big Blur fan, but I'd rather read Graham Coxon or Damon Albarn's autobiography.
 
I'm not reading anything worth shouting about the moment (degree stuff) but I would highly recommend anything by Ian McEwan, especially Atonement.

In Her Shoes by Jennifer Weiner, its actually really funny and good.
 
Paper Towns by John Green.

I only really just started (I'm on pg 34 atm) but I think I'm gonna like it.
 
Just finishing The Scarlet Lion by Elizabeth Chadwick, it's the second book about William Marshall, one of England's greatest Knights.

The hardcover makes it look a bit Mills and Boon, but it's a brilliant read for anyone interested in medieval history.

Recommended.
 
Sunny days are great for getting through books! I'm now most of the way through The Reader, and I have to say, it really got rather good. "What would you have done?" It's a very pertinent question, that people rarely actually ask themselves about Nazi Germany.

I....I also went to the bookshop again.....

It was so pretty, and big, and.....I had to! It would have been wrong to NOT buy it!

I got The Kindly Ones by Jonathan Littell, and I've read the first section. I love how he's named them after different musical styles. I'm not sure how I'll cope with the epicness of the 1000 pages when I barely have the time to get through The Reader, but I really like the guy's writing style. Hey, I have two 4 hour train journies in a few weeks. Maybe I'll make some headway.
