Life in a Medieval Castle by Joseph & Francis Gies
The Undead and Philosophy by Richard Greene & K. Silem Mohammad

I read Life in a Medieval Castle!!!!! I also read the one by them about Marriage and Family in the Middle Ages. That was pretty interesting.

I love the musical! That's what made me want to finish the book, actually. I'd read the first section before seeing it, but gave up when it turned into a History Textbook on Waterloo. Now I know the story from the musical it's much more bearable!

I'm going to be listening to the soundtrack all night now... I'm not sure if that's bad because it'll keep me up, or good because I love it!

i wish i had seen the musical before i read the book. i saw a movie version of it in french class the previous year and then freshman year i read it with the general idea of what was going on. however, i think the musical could have helped more so.

Very worth reading. Hugo spends so much time building characters, you really get the impression that even the most minor part is a real person. And when you know where the story's going, it's much easier to know which characters and plot arcs you need to focus on. It's just...there are sections that are....difficult. I've heard that it's very possible to just skip them though, since they're entirely tangential to the plot.
 
I just finished Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman, much different than the movie...but still really good!
 
I think I read the abridged version of Les Miserables, and even that was like FIGHTING the Battle of Waterloo just to get through. Very engaging, but lots of sections that are sloggy.

I saw an abridged version in Borders. I picked it up, and kept thinking "Where's the rest of it? How can you get two volumes that come to 1000 pages down to something the size of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone?". Kind of tells you something though, Mr. Hugo, no?

I read The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Hugo, which I found very enjoyable, so I think I'll try Les Mis.
 
I just finished "The Reassembled Man" and I'm now going to try "Before The Dawn" by Max Allan Collins. It's the first of a "Dark Angel" trilogy that was recommended to me by another DA fan, as being "more mature" than the "Buffy" books. We'll see. If that doesn't pan out, I've got a Clive Cussler novel, "Navigator," that I haven't gotten to yet.

The last book I read was "The great ideas that shaped our world" by Pete Moore which was really interesting to read about the people behind the ideas and today I started "Who's who in Mythology: Classic guide to the ancient world" by Alexander S Murray.
 
I'm reading the latest Ross O'Carroll-Kelly book, roysh? lol I made a concerted effort to stay away from these books but I was bored on my luch the other day and it was just there and now I'm hooked. He is suprisinly hilarious and it is even touching at times. I think I may just have to read the rest of the series now.

I get bored on my luch all the time. It makes me spell bad! :p
I just packed The Hobbit to keep me entertained on the train. Such a lovely book.

I love The Hobbit, much to read on a train than The Lord Of The Rings. Unless you are travelling to China. :)
I'm reading Jodi Piccoults - Perfect Match, which I thought sounded ok, but is quite disturbing.

I usually like her books but this one is troubling me.
 
I'm still plodding my way through Life in a Medieval Castle (it's very informative, but BORING), and now I'm also reading Uppity Women of Medieval Times by Vicki Leon. Great book!
