What are You Watching #21

True Spirit - the sailing movie. I wish they'd come up with better names for these movies. Its not bad, family flick. Sookie Stackhouse as mother, weird to see her in an older role! But I guess this kind of "kid does epic thing" is in her wheelhouse. I like the casting, everyone puts on a performance. I remember how much flack Jessica copped before she left, but just goes to show where good support can get ya. Some really pretty green screen scenes.

Oh dear, I love Sabrina the teenage witch, but never bothered with more than a couple of minutes of the final season, it just looked bad. But since I have all the other dvds, I caved to my need to complete the collection when I found the 7th season at a cheap price... and oh boy, oh boy. Is it bad. The reason why laugh tracks were invented. Only, they have forgotten to include actual jokes. It's just characters saying things like "I'm gonna go to the living room now" (laugh track), "I need coffee before I go to work" (laugh track).

It's almost painful to watch. Not that it was ever a fountain of cleverly crafted jokes and wit, but it was at least charming and sweet. No, I think five episodes of this season will be enough for me. I have the complete set, doesn't mean I have to watch it.

The collection bug can be so bad lmao. I have lost track of how much junk I have watched or read just because I HAD to have the whole set

Tell me about it, now when I started buying Buffy books, I just want to complete the set and have them all, but there's a freakin' ton of them!
Scooby Doo on Zombie Island

I got a VHS version and the nostalgia is so real. The white clamshell box and all the ads before and just 👌 love it.

Broad City web series
I kept rewatching the Comedy Central series, now it's time to go back to roots. 😀
LOVE anything they've ever done!

I've been rewatching Breaking Bad as of late, I really forgot how great that show was!!!!

In Search Of Darkness II & III
Like being repeatedly dunked in a vat of concentrated 80's horror goodness for hours on end; from the classic to the good to the weird to the cult and the crazy this was fairly exhaustive review and made me want to seek out a lot of the more obscure movies like Hell Night, Basketcase or Pieces. There are some great interviews with the likes of John Carpenter and Joe Dante as well as a few noteworthy scream queens and- most importantly- the many special effects artists (like Tom friggin' Savini!!) who made a lot of these films so memorable with a fractions of the budgets we see today.

A few things struck me; Italian horror is weird and was heavily influenced by and, in turn, went on to influence much US horror at the time. That LGBTQ+ representation was actually a thing that was happening in horror before the AIDS epidemic put a dampener on such things. Also the attempts to ban 'video nasties' and to censor gore/heavy metal/role-playing games - mainly by christian conservative-types- is almost quaint compared to the things that go on these days. Much more noise just to end up with the silly 'parental advisory' sticker on cds.

Blair Witch 2016

Really apprehensive because the first movie is one of my favorite horror films. Hopefully this one is at the very least okay

Underbelly, the first season. Figured I might as well take advantage of it on free to air and finally watch it. Only a decade or so late hah. I think I had tried to watch the second season before and didnt get far. We'll see if this first one hooks me (different crimes)
