Savor those episodes, because the story arc/series mythology episodes almost always disappoint. It's a fantastic show but not because of Chris Carter's ability to plot out long term stories. The show is carried by the fantastic cast and characters, so monster-of-the-week episodes are generally where they shine.
Every so often I see this series mentioned and considered watching. However just reading about it, it appears a bit gory, and I don't like watching that kind of thing.
