It's a serious thread 😛 Don't be ashamed to tell us what are you afraid.

I'm scared of snake. I have an experience to tell you. One day, when I was 19, I was with my father at my sister's and my brother-in-law's. We spend a nice family meal and finally arrive the moment we have to leave.
Suddenly my father hears a noise under the hood of the car, he raises the hood and there we see a snake wrapped everywhere in there 😱. When I saw that I thought I was going to have a heart attack, for me it was unimaginable that something like that happens, I thought I was hallucinating and I was so scared. My father and my brother-in-law tried for half an hour to remove it from there, but it was impossible because after we saw it, it was hiding too deeply. Then, my father said :
- Son, listen we will get in the car, we will go to home, we will drive and it will have to get out of there otherwise it will burn because of overheating of the engine. And my response :
- No way I get in that car ! Pity no I do not want to go inside that car.
I'm not ashamed to say that I cried so much. I did not want to get in this car.
But my father did not give me the choice.
It's been the longest ride of my life. It was summer, it was hot but my window was closed because I imagined that if the snake was too hot under the hood it could try to come inside the car. Honestly I did not know if it was possible or not, but I was really scared, but really I was so scared that I was shaking all over my body. I cried loudly, I was screaming for my father to close his window, I'm honest I was so scared that I was annoying. Suddenly my father became angry with me, telling me to shut up and because of that we almost had a car accident. He missed a turn and we almost went into the ditch. Luckily he put the car back on the road in time and after that big fright, I calmed down and closed my mouth until we got home.
I do not know what the snake has become but after that I didn't get in the car for 2 months.
To give you an example of the situation even if my snake was less big and deeper under the hood

I have chills just looking at that snake!
I'm afraid of spiders and most bugs. No story behind it, there just mean and creepy. @Antho until recently I had a pet snake. He was wonderful.

I love to swimming. However, the closest thing I have to an actual phobia is water. Just looking at deep dark water makes my heart race. I love free diving, though I doubt I have been lower than four meters. It is an intense experience for me. I always think something is going to grab me or that my pulse will run out of control.

Apart from that, I am terrified of pain. Therefore I always preferred skiing to snowboarding, growing up and only through peer pressure would I attempt the more difficult jumps.

I generally avoid all potentially stressful or uncomfortable situations. I am mostly a creature of comfort 😛

That snake looks terrifying😱

I fear a lot of things:

Spiders, bugs anything of that sort. Thankfully in england we don't see snakes i would probably cry and scream If I ever saw one in real life.

Loosing my family.

Being alone forever or simply being not good enough to find anyone- most people think this one is a silly teenage fear 😀

Being infertile this is a major one for me because ever since I was a little girl I've always wanted to be a mother.

I don't have any phobias, though others point out how hyper-vigilant I am (when walking I'm careful to look where someone might be hiding, when walking along a street I try not to hold anything to the side of the road, etc).

I suppose the closest thing is fire. I'm not sure how it came about. My earliest experience was seeing Dad going to sleep in a chair with a lit cigarette in his hand...I couldn't have been older than 6 because this was before the local girls started shunning me (and I told them about it). I wanted to take the cigarette out of his hand, but was too scared (Granny spanked me for taking a cigarette out of her mouth, and Dad was a lot meaner, especially when drunk and tired). Nothing happened, but I had a nightmare I think that very night of a fire chasing me everywhere I went. Dreams of being chased by fire continue to this day (though rare), but interesting enough, when I used self-hypnosis to combat my various nightmares, I somehow ended up pyrokinetic in some of my dreams (but being pyrokinetic doesn't mean I can't burn).

And though I'm not phobic about fire, I am more careful than most, and I even make sure the vehicles have an up to date fire extinguisher (along with first aid kit) which some consider excessive. I also get angry (which isn't a normal thing for me, and I'm guessing because there's a bit of fear left in me since anger is a natural consequence of fear) over this, like when I saw someone toss out a lit cigarette in the summer (so very dry grass) by apartments. That said, I'm oddly more tolerant of smokers than most people are (as long as they aren't obnoxious about it and careful not to burn anything).

I am assuming this thread is asking about irrational fears and phobias.

I suffer pretty badly from thanatophobia, also referred to as Death Anxiety. The type I have is called Existential Death Anxiety:

(From Wikipedia) Existential death anxiety stems from the basic knowledge that human life must end. Existential death anxiety is known to be the most powerful form. It is said that language has created the basis for existential death anxiety through communicative and behavioral changes. Other factors include an awareness of the distinction between self and others, a full sense of personal identity, and the ability to anticipate the future.

Basically I have a crippling fear of death, which is due to being terrified of the fact that one day I won't exist anymore. I am not a religious or a spiritual person and so I draw no comfort from any kind of "life after death" concept. Thinking about death and dying can literally cause me to have panic attacks, so I try not to think about either too often.

Im right there with ya @Antho I HATE snakes!

I came across one today actually... I was trying to walk down to the beach. I was barefoot when I saw it, less than 2 m ahead right across the path! I turned tail and went back to the car to get some sneakers. I wandered back down the path again, thinking it would have moved on, but no, it was crawling up the path towards me! I knew I should have stood still, but I was scared and started sneaking backwards wondering if I could get around it when it did its little defensive "Imma gonna strike you" head pose thing and I turned and ran back to the carpark. Where I waited for a gang of tourists to come up from the beach to scare it off with footsteps 😀 I told them there was a snake right there, they didnt seem bothered until they saw how scared I was trying to creep back down the hill, then they asked "Was it poisonous?" YES! Well venomous... This is Oz, most things are. Then they decided to move along more quickly haha. I got to the beach and back without any further scares thank goodness!

I am also scared of swimming over reefs and dark water. This has been lifelong. My first full blown panic attack was on the great barrier reef... My dad had to rescue me. I just avoid where I cant see the bottom now. It can be deep and I dont mind, but if I cant the sand I freak.

I am terrified of psychotic methheads. Thankfully, I no longer live near the worst of them!

My biggest fear is flying. Absolutely hate it and I feel so anxious the entire flight.
I also have a fear of drowning.

My irrational fear is moths; they freak me out and are extremely ugly. Whereas I have no issues with butterflies? Very strange.

You learn something new everyday. I also have this, just not the panic attacks to go with it fortunately. It can get me down if I think about it, so I do my best not to.

I have a fear of being constipated and when defecating it doesn't drop and just dangles there and I have to go and manually evacuate myself. There have been a few times when I've not eaten enough fiber and I've been left dangling and this fear always rears it's ugly head.

I'm going to call this an "overshare"

Can't really think of any. I think I've become increasingly more afraid of heights the older I've gotten. Not sure why as I used to play on high building roofs as a kid. Now, those shots in TV and films when the camera pans over a building edge or drop makes me queasy.

I also get a bit freaked out when the subway stops mid-tunnel and the lights all go off. That seems to happen every time I get the subway.
