What are your goals in life?

I love this thread! It's really cool to see what everyone wants to accomplish.

For me, I recently met a goal of mine, to buy my own house! that was a pretty big deal for me, and only possible because of some money my late sister left me.

Beyond that, my short tern goals for the next couple years are to 1. learn Spanish, 2. and go back to school to become a teacher, and 3. pay off my credit card debt.

I'd also like to ramp up my side hustle, where I resell vintage items online, but realistically I'm not sure how much time I will have to commit to that this year, since I am busy with other activities.

I am working towards these goals by:
1. by working on my Spanish daily with Babbel (they're running a great sale now if anyone is interested!)
2. and applying to a program for next year
3. Making and following a budget that includes debt repayment

As for marriage, I was engaged once. I'd love to meet someone again, but I'm honestly not trying too hard. I'm just living my life and hoping I'll meet someone naturally again. And as for children, I'm childfree, so that's not ever a goal I have had.

As for long term goals, I'd like to write a book, open my own business, and retire in Costa Rica. Not sure yet on the plan to meet those goals!

I'm wondering if anyone else here is making a career change/going back to school? It's exciting but sort of daunting as well.

What are you switching from and what do you want to teach
I think I have finally decided to do what I have always wanted.

I am going to move to a different state.

Ever since I was 14-15, I have detested living where I do. (Ohio) For me, there is just nothing here. My future here feels stagnant and unchanging, my life goals and aspirations are not here, and my personality on the whole just doesn’t fit this place.

Now, at 24 going on 25, I’m starting to realize I need to actually adventure and explore. I’m going to save up money over the next few years and when I feel I have enough, I’m leaving. The goal is to leave before I’m 30. Preferably before that, but if I can save a lot more money, that would be excellent.

Research job opportunities and housing options, but I want to get a house as well. My credit will have been established well by that point (got a credit card this year, so 4-5 years tops of good credit score), so I’m hoping that I should be able to get a loan.

Once I leave, I’m gone and I won’t come back. There’s nothing for me here anymore! 🤷‍♀️ Time to find where I’m supposed to be

What state do you want to move to and why?
@TamsinValencia I'm really sensitive about discussing it, so all I feel comfortable saying is that I work in public school education. I'm studying for a job in the criminal justice field, since I honestly just have always wanted to do something where I can meaningfully impact or help people.

@Joan the Vampire Slayer at the moment I’m considering something in New England. Maine would be preferable. Either there or somewhere on the other side of the nation, like Washington or Oregon. I want to live somewhere where there’s an ocean to go to and see and someplace that embodies the small town mentality and atmosphere. There are other reasons as well, but they are largely regarding mindsets and leanings of people in the area compared to people here, so I don’t want to start political debate. Let’s just keep it simple and say mine doesn’t fit here and I need to go somewhere where it does fit.

Can I come live with you in Maine? Plz with a cherry on top
Be in a place where I make enough money in order to live reasonably, I don't see myself ever buying a house in this economy.

I don't blame you one bit. N.Y. is a tough place to carve out a living. I'm so glad I no longer live there. I've had so many more opportunities here in Missouri than I would ever have had if I was still in Brooklyn. Low cost of living with everything so much more affordable. Cleaner and easier living all the way around. Yeah, I still have some relatives back east but I have no desire go back there at all.

I know how to ice skate, now I just need to figure out the financially stable/rich part!

Have you considered becoming a world renowned ice skating champion? Lucrative pay and a good use of your new skills 🤣

Noooooo I liked it even before his writing! I just like the coastal state atmosphere. His novels paint an idyllic picture to be sure, but I have more reasons than just that!
An idyllic picture of vampires, killer clowns and pets that come back from the dead ?

I would like to be an actor. I’ve no acting experience, but I’m good at imitating people. And I was watching a Friends episode, in which Joey was teaching an acting class and I found it really interesting.

I enquired last month about re-enactments being filmed in my local area. The organiser didn’t get back to me so I guess I didn’t get a part. There was no harm in trying anyway.

Did you take classes
@Taake I mean you’re more than welcome to come with, lol. 🤣 I just didn’t figure you’d want to move to an entire new continent, but be my guest!
