What are your thoughts on "Lessons"?

Mixed. Great opening (although From Beneath you tops it), funny banter between Dawn and Buffy. The main plot is completely weak and generic, Spike in the basement is just annoying... its really forgettable.

I liked the whole role reversal thing that went on in Lessons- Buffy dropping off Dawn at school with words of 'advice' much like Buffy was dropped off by her Mum in Welcome to the Hellmouth. And also Dawn goes off with her two mates (the guy and girl. I forget their names), which is like Buffy in the end of Welcome to the Hellmouth Part 2 where she has new friends in Xander and Willow. I think for those little nods it was a great episode, but on the whole in it doesn't stick in my mind much. But then again, they were planning for huge story arcs to come so maybe they wanted a fairly light (if implying) episode.

It's average in quality:
First of all, it is mostly a Dawn-centric episode, so that automatically counts against it.
The plot with the zombie/ghosts seemed very 1st Season-ish, which fits in with the whole 'back to the beginning' tagline.
Spike revelaed being insane in the basement was a pretty dramatic revelation, since we really had no idea what had happened to him after he had gotten his soul.
The ending was AWESOME. Also tying in to the phrase 'back to the beginning' again, seeing Warren, Glory, Adam, The Mayor, Dru, The Master (And therefore, The First) after more than a season's absence (Excpet Warren) almost makes the episode worth it all.

Really didn't like this episode. They started a cool story where Dawn goes to high school...and then they dropped it mid-way through the season
I like the episode, though as others have said, it's pretty average. I like the idea of the school being haunted by students who have died, but they could have orchestrated it a lot better. Spike being insane just annoyed me. As someone else mentioned, it had a slight vibe of old school Buffy to it, so I think that's what I liked about it.
