What changed the ugly faced minion's mind?

In "Tough Love", Glory asks her minions to follow Buffy's friends in order to find the key. One of her minions was eavesdropping behind the door of the Magic Box, and Giles theatened him, trying to get information out of him. But the minion says that he'll never say anything, no matter what. Giles tells the girls to bring something (a rope?), and within a second, literally, the minion freaks out and says he'll tell him everything.
He changed his mind in one second.

What do you think Giles did to him in order to make him change his mind so quickly?
I know it's meant to be a funny bit with a mystery side in it, but still, what do you think happened there?

Maybe Glory had done something to him like that before and he thought it would be the same thing?

Either that or he did it out of the goodness of his heart....lol

I think it was to show that the minion's devotion wasnt as strong as made out! Throughout the whole series the minions said they'd give their life for Glory, that their whole purpose was to carry out Glory's will but within a second of torture being proposed he gave all that up! Just shows it was all words!

I think it was another one of those moments where Giles was totally badass and scary, but we didn't get to see it, thus adding to the mystery of Ripper Giles. 😉
