If you could change 5 (or more,if you want!) things about BtVS as a whole, what would they be?

Changes can be from any series and from any episode.

1) Dust Angel in the 2-part opener and make Darla the vampire with a soul (she and Xander would have been a great couple)

2) Not have Jenny killed.

3) Have Drusilla turn Joyce in Season 2 (Just think of the potential for drama over a thing like that, especially when Darla sacrifices her soul to make Joyce human once more, then immediately dusts herself rather than turn evil again)

4) Have Faith and Buffy be much closer friends, with no "going rogue" for Faith.

5) In order to save the world, Buffy has no choice but to throw Dawn off of the tower.

6) At some point in the show, have Cordelia develop a bad case of pimples that lasts for at least 3 or 4 episodes.

7) Riley doesn't leave in Season 5, but instead becomes possessed by Glory's spirit.

8) And, it goes without saying, Spike and Buffy fall head over heels in love before the first commercial in "School Hard," he teams up with her to defeat Drusilla and stop her plan to destroy the world. For his help in saving the world, Spike is awarded his soul by the Powers That Be, and it's uninterrupted Spuffy antics for the rest of the series.

(I know, that's more than five, but I got on a roll...)

awesome post!!
1) Twilight

2) Willow and Xander's mini-affair wouldn't have happened.

3) No all potentials become slayers spell.

4) No chip in Spikes head.

5) The Trio would have never existed.

I find you post mean spirited and not funny. (just kidding! I lol'ed!)
Wow, this is a real "lay it all out there" type question. I love it!

1) More score in the later seasons! C Beck, where were you?!

2) Seasons 6 and 7 Giles never happens. I know ASH needed to take a break, so he leaves for a much better reason than "you must stand on your own in this unstoppable time of crisis in your life, and turn to me for help no longer even though I am the only father figure you ever had and you recently lost your mother and became a mother yourself and...oh yes, came back to life. Oh and I'm going to try to kill the one person who has consistently stood by your side since I left you because some other force is controlling him and balderdash if we're going to try to find another way to help him instead. Kay bye."

3) No Twilight. And definitely don't call it "Twilight."

4) Xander retains a lot more of what makes him a wonderful character, in later seasons. It seems like after he and Anya become serious, he's basically just "correct Anya, be hypocritical, make occasional quips, then do something horrible like summon Sweet," which just isn't fair. Xander in 1-4 was an incredible character and while I was glad to see him grow up, find his own path, and experience a certain amount of success, we lost too much of what made him great.

5) Let's hear more of Tara's thoughts, opinions, suggestions. Also, she may not be nearly as powerful as Willow but why is it that she only uses magic like twice after season 4? She could have helped quite a bit more.

6) Spike calls Buffy post "Chosen," or she somehow finds out he's alive. Heck, we actually get to see Buffy in season 5 of Angel.

7) Harmony doesn't have the "moral compass" we see her struggle to hold on to, in Season 5. She's a vampire without a soul, and not all of them can endeavor to be good and/or to at least restrain themselves from being evil, especially without a chip as a catalyst!! And if they can, that seriously needs to be addressed by Buffy.

Oh so many more but have to get back to work!

Nail on the head with #2. I stopped liking Giles when he left at the beginning of Season 6 and haven't cared for him since.

Agree with everything!
There would be so many changes I will just post some of the rules I would try to stick to:

1. No good demons. No demonic species. In my mind demons need to be powerful individuals like the Kinderstod of Moloch, not Star Trek aliens.

2. No human/demon or human/vampire romance.

3. No serial killers in the Scooby gang.

4. The Scooby gang would consist of the Core Four plus Jenny, Tara, Riley and Cordelia. Kendra would be a recurring character, visiting to help from time to time. If Dawn is to be there, I would have made her a girl from the start, that fake memories nonsense would have no place in my version of events.

5. No villains who are way more powerful than Buffy and could squash her like a bug at any moment but never bother to do so. More villains like Maggie Walsh, Ethan Rayne or Gwendolyne Post.

6. More interaction between the Core Four and the rest of the gang, not counting their respective love interest. A good example of this done right would be Cordelia in S1-3.

7. That's important: people stabbing each other in the back and/or going dark would not be the main way of creating conflict and drama.

8. Willow wouldn't be as powerful as she ended up being, she would have relied more on brains than on "Dark forces, I suck at Latin".

tl:dr - I would have kept the spirit of the first two seasons and happily thrown away most changes that happened later on.

1. Fix Xander and Giles. It was sad to see two once great characters have nothing to do, after season 5 Xander had no story and after season 6 the same thing happened to Giles. WTF Joss.

2. Make Season 7 not suck. Seriously, this season was awful, there's no excuse, Angel had a much better final season and it got cancelled mid-season...

3. Have a major crossover with Angel. All I want is one giant team-up at the Hyperion Hotel (because it's bigger). It sucked how the writers only gave us individual characters crossover

4. No Chip in Spike's head. This was just lame, Spike used to be awesome, then he started getting tied to chairs...Angel never got tied to chairs when he was evil😛

5. Keep the Core Four together. It was kind of sad to see them break down, they lost the bond they had in seasons 1-3 and 5. I definitely miss the family-feel of the early season

haha thanks. I've had that rant a-brewin' in my head for a long time now, felt good to get it out!!
Though I love "Passion", I would have kept Jenny alive. She and Giles had so much potential! They could have gotten married (would have loved to see a Scooby wedding go through), had kids (would have been nice to see a normal, natural pregnancy with a nomal, natural NOT ANNOYING kid), and had a family. I would have loved this! I have imagined some of the details: Jenny getting cravings and making Giles leave the house to buy ice cream at 2:00 AM, resulting in a vampire attack; them freaking out about keeping their kid safe, a much better reason for Giles leaving in season 6; Jenny convincing Giles not to try to kill Spike, and in other ways keeping Buffy and Giles' relationship intact; Jenny being a mentor to Willow and maybe preventing her from killing Warren... So many possibilities!

Only problem i could see with that is (If Giles and Jenny had a family) were to be that Giles would practicly have to give up being Buffy's watcher, and we would have seen far less then him than we did in series 7 etc.

I couldn't see them doing that story line and still have him involved in the story as a whole anywhere near as much.

I'm not quite sure myself what changes i would have. Not even sure if i can think of 5 lol.

Possible one's i would have are:

Angel has a slightly bigger role in Chosen, but not that much of a role that he becomes a central character to that episode. Would have been good to see him,Spike & Buffy fight alongside each other at the end. (But keep the ending the same) And then have Angel walk off. But not sure how many would agree with that.

I also agree with Hale Caesar, i would have kept the group together a bit more. Since a huge part of the show was about them as a group and how they over come things together and helped one another, that sort of dwindled a bit and it became less of a group. BUT in that aspect, i suppose that goes along with them growing up and having to choose their own paths.

And i know that you it would give him a better reason to leave in season 6, so im guessing that's when Jenny would have to be pregnant (or near the end of season 5) but what i ment was that since Jenny died in season 2, had she of lived, then i think we would have seen more from then of Giles having to "choose" between being a watcher, or being in a relationship with Jenny.

True... I don't know all the details, just Jenny staying alive.
The AR in Season 6 wouldn't happen, Kennedy would be gaffertaped and therefore quiet for all of season 7 and Dawn would be kept in a cupboard after Season 5. Also Angel wouldn't come back in Chosen as it made hardly any sense imo. I'd have liked more crossover generally though, but not so Buffy and Angel could make googly eyes at each other. I'd love to see the gang talk to Lorne, maybe bring up kitten poker or something again, that was a cute idea. More of a role for Xander would be good too, he bored me after Season 4.

My top five changes? And for BtVS only, right? Okay... Here we go, in no particular order:

1- Have a whole season arc be about Giles' dark side(Ripper). That could have been sooo interesting. They had me really curious with the stuff in 'Halloween' and 'The Dark Age'. It would definitely have been more fun than Dark Willow, imo.
2- And on that same topic... Make Ethan a bigger character on the show. He could have been related to that storyline. He was perfect for a BtVS villain... Sarcastic, funny, evil and manipulative, yet such a coward.
3- Have another cool and kick ass vampire be the big bad at some point. Mr Trick was fun, but he was downplayed as The Mayor & Faith roles were much more important in that season. And personally I think it suck that on a show called 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer', there was really only one or two cool vamps. The rest being easily dismissed, as well as being stupid or totally uninteresting.
4- Scrap the whole potential crap in S7, give more screen time to the core four. Not as much focus on just Buffy & Spike(as much as I like them both), and what about a decent big bad? Caleb came in too late, and The First who sounded like he would be cool at first(no pun intended), ended up being pretty lame.
5- How about not screwing over Giles character? Thanks.

Love all your suggestions

#3 is a great suggestion. Mr. Trick could have been really great.
1. Anya not dying in the finale. It was obvious she was just killed off for the sake of someone dying. That just ruined the ending for me. It was barely acknowledged and saddening.

2. There was a huge flaw in the final episode as well - why were the Uber Vampires so easy to kill? It took Buffy forever to kill just one of them in a few episodes prior. I don't read the comics but the idea of there being a whole bunch of slayers bugs me. Not to mention it was broad day light...I don't see why Giles, Xander, Anya, Andrew etc had to stay around and fight them off in the school. X_X

3. Bring back Cordelia for some episodes 🙂

1. Jenny doesn't get killed off by Angel. Instead, Angel either kills off Oz or Cordelia.

2. After Angel gets stabbed and sent to Hell at the end of Season 2, he never comes back. Buffy deals with the weight of killing her first love in the following season.

3. The Xander/Willow fling never happened.

4. Anya appeared in only The Wish.

5. Xander gets recruited by the Intiative and becomes a tough badass because of the enhancements and the training than just the guy who makes jokes and helps out among the Scoobies.

6. Xander and Buffy hook up in Season 4 after Buffy becomes drawn to the new and improved Xander.

7. Faith wakes up from her coma with a case of amensia and Buffy takes her under her wing, feeling responsible for putting her in the coma in the first place. Faith ends up living at Buffy's house with Joyce. After spending an amount of time there, Faith regains her memories but chooses not to seek revenge aganist Buffy after developing a new bond with Buffy, Joyce, and the other Scoobies. Around Season 5, Joyce adopts Faith as her daughter.

8. Dawn doesn't exist. In her place as the Key is Faith. Faith turns out to be the key in Season 5 and Faith sacrifices herself to save the world in The Gift, leaving Buffy with the guilt of not being able to save her adoptive sister which leads to her downward spiral.

I agree with all your suggestions, especially Ethan Rayne. I honestly believe Ethan was one of the most fun villains on Buffy, and is greatly under appreciated

I do love the idea of a "Ripper" Arc in Buffy and NOT screwing Giles in Season 7. But remember Joss was planning to do a "Ripper" spin-off which never got the money, so that is probably why Giles got so lame in later seasons, he was saving the stories
