I was watching That Old Gang of Mine last night and it got me thinking.

Since he died in that episode, we never really got to find out what Gio did. What he was running from. Why he left Florida.

Clearly it involved a girl. So what do you guys think?

Lorne: "Miami."

Gio turns around to look at the host, who is sitting on a chair by the back wall.

Gio: "Did you say something to me, green boy?"

Lorne: "Was three thousand miles really far enough, I wonder? I *know* why you left."

Lorne stands up and two of the guys cocks their gun and points it at his chest but Gio lifts a hand to stop him from shooting Lorne.

Lorne: "Why you ran. - You couldn't stay there, could you? - After what you did. - She trusted you."

Gio, quietly: "Shut up."

Lorne: "Right up until the end she trusted you. Did you know that?"

Gio hauls back and hits Lorne hard across the face. Lorne turns back to look at Gio, his mouth bloodied, but smiling. Gio backs up a step.

cool thread (Rep Race Rematch between DDLM and Angelic Slayer)
Personally i always felt that this was a 'There but for the grace of...Angel' moment.

That Gio loved someone, promised to protect them, but a demon got to them, ala Gunn and Alonna, but Gunn had support and that helped, where as Gio was what Gunn would have been had he not been supported, helped by someone like Angel.

in my mind Gio IS alternate dimension Gunn

Seee now shockingly. I disagree 🙂

The way it sounded to me, a girl loved him, he betrayed her. The way Lorne made it sound, it was bad. Maybe he raped her, got her killed. maybe both. But to me, it sounded really awful.

Ok, Im drunk, tomorrow, I'll come back and explain properly 🙂

Erm, see, that entire commentary, Lorne would say out loud what the problem was, I get that Lorne deals in honesty, he would want the crew to know if he was a rapist or murderer.

Lorne: "Right up until the end she trusted you. Did you know that?"

Right up to the end, that implies death.
The whole thing with trust seems to suggest/imply Gio let this woman down which is exactly how Gunn felt about Alonna, by allowing some demon to kill her he felt he let her down.

Thats why i think its the same situation only Gio didnt have a 'Guardian Angel' to help

The way I saw it was Gio was nothing more then a chickens**t. He promised to protect her but turned tail and ran from the demon or possibly pushed her into the demon so he could escape. So to save face he left Miami went to LA so people would believe he was as tough as he acted.

i don't know what he did, but lorne made it sound pretty bad. gio deserved what he got.
