What did the first evil mean?

I remember that the First evil said that it has still some plans with Spike and that's why it didn't kill him. But I think he had never this important occurs. May I missed something I just can't remember me! I think the First evil said it after Spike had lost his trigger? Or was it before? Was the trigger the thing which the First evil meant with the important role of Spike? But I think it was after the hypnotic-Spike part. In contrary in the end it was Spike who rescued Buffy from the edge and who destroyed the army and the First evil!

I think that the First Evil's plans for Spike, ultimately, were that he would either kill Buffy or in some way prevent her from recovering and utilizing the Scythe against it and its army of Bringers and ubervamps. Or, as an alternative, it might have planned to manipulate someone (as in Wood and Giles or, perhaps later, Faith) into killing Spike, thus preventing him from wearing the amulet into the hellmouth.

Well but why waiting then? Wouldn't it make more sense to kill him as fast as you can?

We're talking about a non-corporeal being here, who can only accomplish things by either convincing corporeal beings, like Caleb and the Bringers, to do its bidding, or by fooling other corporeal beings into believing that the things that the First Evil wants done are actually their own ideas in the first place. I imagine setting up either circumstance takes a good bit of time and energy, and if Plan A fails, the whole process has to begin all over again with Plan B.
 
I think it just wanted him out of the way. I'm guessing it knew about the prophecy. Then again, that wouldn't make any sense. If it knew that a vampire with a soul would basically save the world...why wouldn't it just have The Bringers chop his head off? Or why didn't The First just make Spike kill Buffy? I mean why wouldn't it at least try that? And then have him murder all of the potentials? Perhaps it liked a challenge 😉

It did try to get Spike to kill Buffy. Remember? Spike couldn't go through with it. He stopped himself.
