You know...what's that one lesson/bit of advice/piece of knowledge that is going to stick with you and has been the most important thing you've learnt this year?

I learnt that to experience the things I want to experience, I have to step outside my comfort zone go for it because they won't just knock on your door unless you give them a call (or some other strange metaphor). Fear is not an option! lol.

Your turn!

That if I want to be happy I'm going to have to do it myself. Everything doesn't just fall into place and voila! instant happiness! Although I knew that subconsciously this year I KNEW it. Also I realised that I do indeed have limitations, something that really is quite humbling for someone who thought they could do anything if they tried hard enough or wanted it enough. Turns out it doesn't work that way. On the upside I realised what my talent is, on the downside it has nothing to do with my college course!

...Oh well, at least I'm half way there.

I learned that teachers aren't always right about the way things should be done. This came from a) being in graduate school, in that weird halfway point between an undergrad who doesn't know a dratted thing and a professional in the field; and b) being a tutor at the college and helping undergrads (and sometimes grads) with their writing. It's been an interesting discovery, but frustrating because, being in that weird halfway point, I'm not allowed to SAY anything about it (my teachers do still control my grades), and no one listens to me, anyway.

In my case...I'd have to say learning how to take better care of myself physically.

I landed in the hospital with pancreatitis, keeping me in there for nearly a month. And,when you're in there for that long, you tend to reflect about life, etc. When I was released,I got back to work on a project that, for years, have never taken any form of flight-fan fiction which would be based in the Buffyverse,if only on its edges.

These days,I eat better...most of the time. Dropped about 40 pounds(half of that thanks to not eating anything for nearly 2 weeks;an IV provided my only nutrition during that time),too. And the project contines apace.

Hopefully,it'll continue in the '08.

I haven't learned a lot of life lessons, but I've learned a HUGE thing about myself that I didn't know before.

It hit me hard because it's a real shock.

When this past semester started, I met this girl. I fell in love with her on the spot, and I freaked out. I didn't know if I was gay or just confused. I've finally come to terms with it, and I've accepted the fact that I'm gay...I think.

She's the only girl I've ever fallen in love with, so I don't know if that makes me actually gay or not. Am I?

It really sucks though because she's not gay. I might try and pursue this relationship if she was.

Nevertheless, I've done a lot of self-discovery in the past year.

No problem hun! always here to help!
I’ve learned that no matter how bad your heart is broken the world doesn’t stop for your grief. That our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become. And that you can keep going long after you fell it's impossible to continue.

Don't label yourself as anything.Whats the point? by doing it you almost automaticlly become defined by that label and people struggle to see you as anything else. If you do need a label well how about lucky? The relationship may not have worked out the way you wanted but you fell in love, not everyone gets to do that, and really everyone should.:smile0:

Thank you, Kean! That really means a lot!
I learnt that you haven't got to believe what other people say. They say things to make them feel good about themselves, and I never knew that before. I get that now, and I know not to listen to what people say about me, and other people.

I've often thought they should teach BS in school to prepare people for the steady pile of it that's waiting in the real world. The problem is, even if they did, what they taught you would all be BS.

Also the whole "the world lies" thing is just the first revelation. Next comes the one where you decide what pile of BS you choose to accept, and you realize the bigger problem is a person often chooses to BS him or herself. It's that "we have met the enemy and it is us" thing.

I learned that Buffy was THE BEST SHOW EVER! I first watched Buffy in april and ever sinCe i was addicted!

Cool! You're a REALLY new Buffy fan!
I learned that I have limits. I learned that I'm not always beat-the-odds girl. It was a sort of crappy lesson. Let's hope that in 2008, I learn how to adjust to those limits. 🙂

I found that out too this year...can't say it something I like
I learned that Buffy was THE BEST SHOW EVER! I first watched Buffy in april and ever sinCe i was addicted!

:cheering:I learned that Buffy is one of my favorite shows. It was my fav. show back when it was on but after it stopped airing I watched DS9, Farscape, Charmed, Stargate, Stargate Atlantis, Firefly, Angel, Andromeda, Lost World, One Tree Hill, Roswell, Space Above and Beyond, Sea Quest DSV, Enterprise, Babylon 5, X files, Heroes... really every great show I know of without watching any Buffy.. Until this year that is 😀

So I learned I still LOVE Buffy ^_^ maybe not as much as stargate and Bablyon 5 but Buff's up there!!

Just to progress on my "you gotta get out there and do it lesson", I learnt that some risks are worth taking....regardless of the outcome. Those risks that are worth taking if only to be able to move on. And even if you think that you're only taking it to move on, sometimes they totally pay off.

🙂
