What do you do for a work?

I know we've done this type of thread before, but I thought it was time to do with again, what with the new members and all. Let's get to know each other better by talking about what we do for a living!

(P.S. for everyone's safety, please do not say the actual company/organization you work for or location, just describe what industry and describe what you do and why you like it)

I will start!

I primarily work in theatre (which along with english was what I studied in college), and have done many roles in that area. Currently, I am a house manager at two big theaters. Basically, I am in charge of managing the theatre during performances and supervising staff. I like it because I enjoy being in the theatre and seeing free shows and meeting actors and artists. I also work one day a week at a children's museum where I facilitate educational activities for young children. I like it because kids are hilarious and fun!

Cool thread! I'm doing a few things right now. Graduating school this year, but because I'm in my last year I get to work in a lab as a chemist. So right now I'm doing a lot of research. I love that I feel like what I'm doing will help people in the future, which is mainly why I'm in this field. It's a very gratifying job, even if I work insane hours, it's definitely worth it! I won't try to explain the technical aspects of it, I'd most likely put everyone here to sleep 😛

I don't work any more due to health issues. However, I used to be in the wine trade...retail mostly although had a stint of head office work in Human Resources, writing the staff training manual with 5 others. My store was very busy compared to others in my area and my staff and I covered staff absence in other stores in the area. At one point we were staffing 4 shops plus our own....that was fun but hard work doing a 78 hour week excluding travel...but we were rewarded so it was all good. It was a job I loved and made it to year one of the wine and spirit diploma but then the company went into administration at Christmas...not so good as we lost our jobs and home. But then I was head hunted with about 20 others to come back to our stores and work for a different company doing the same thing. It was the longest I'd been in one trade. Made it to 10 years in the wine trade working for a total of 4 different companies in the end!! There you go that's my worky story lol...I'm sure you are bored now so I'll stop lol!

I work in Arts management. I project manage festivals and other arts and cultural events. There is one 3 day architectural festival that is my baby and I run that almost completely on my own and then I work as a support with the other people in my office for other festivals happening in my city throughout the year.

It's tough work with long hours, especially in the weeks leading up to the events. I'm enjoying it for now but, I don't think I'll stay doing it forever.

I write software. My major used to be physics then I switched to computer science. Right now I just started at new job that has to do with the same stuff I did before , mainly managing people biometrics. Kinda cannot go into details, but it is complicated and yet fun.

I work as an independent distributor for a Utilities company. My job is to introduce people to the company and show them how they can save money on their bills.

I'm currently studying full time at uni, but enventually I'll be a librarian. Who knows, maybe I'll be come a female version of Giles 😀 (especially since I wanna go work in the UK)

I wanna study film sound design, but until then I'm working for a mobile nursing service. I take care of office stuff and vehicle maintenance and stuff like that.

I am now retired,but I was formerly an industrial electrician. Since retirement, I have been self employed as a gunsmith and a martial arts instructor, and I now, as a hobby, make paracord bracelets for church and social groups in our area and to give away on our church's yearly mission trip to Costa Rica

I am an electrical engineer specializing in small signal analog design but in the last few jobs, I have been a program manager. If the stars align, it's a great career.

I'm a student at the moment, finishing up my last year in Criminal Justice, which I'm pretty excited about. I intern in Washington, D.C. this summer, and that's something I really, really want to do. It's unpaid, which is kind of a downer, but it's a place I've always wanted to go, and always wanted to work.

Until recently I was just an office drone, then last summer I joined a publishing firm.

I love it, I love that I'm doing something in the creative areana, I love literature in general and to part of helping make it (even in a very, very minor role) is a real treat.

I survive on the disability pension just and in my spare time (20 hours a day) I'm an author. I have three projects on the go at present, A fictional biography, an Epic Poem about witchcraft and an Epic Poem about vampires, strange I know but my books don't sell much.

I am in graduate school trying to get my M.A. in archaeology, which is like a full time job. Lots of research, volunteer/internship work and the like.

Currently I'm a cashier, but I really want to get into either journalism or public relations as soon as I have the funds (and acceptance--I'm waiting for a few) to go to school! I love reading and writing 😉

I'm a speech-language pathologist (speech therapist to you Brits) in the public schools. I've been doing this for 20 years now, eek! I spent some time home full time when the kids were little but mostly part-time. I've been back working full time for about 4 years. I love having the same schedule as my kids.

I've been working for the past six years as the bookkeeper/secretary at my hometown church and I love it! I like talking to parishioners and doing bookwork. I get lots of down time to do things like play on BB, too, so that's nice! I only work part time, and I'm also a full time mommy of three. 🙂

Probably work for a museum or a national park, but I am not sure as of now. It might depend on what I do for my summer internship since that can lead to a job. Thanks for asking!
