I always find it interesting to hear what people do for work.

What do you do for work, or if you no longer work, what did you used to do? How long have you been doing it? Do you enjoy it? If so, what about your work do you enjoy? If you don't enjoy it, what would you rather be doing?

I used to be a theater stage manager, but I got burnt out and quit. Now, I tend bar part-time, and I resell vintage clothing online. I really enjoy both of these. I was thinking about going into teaching, but with the sad situation in education in the state I currently live in, I've decided against that. Instead, I'm thinking about opening my own business.

I am now retired, but I used to be an electrical engineer and project manager. I have done small signal, digital and solar power projects but my favourite is small signal.

You dodged a bullet (maybe literally) about avoiding teaching. Teaching has three strikes against it:

1. the students
2. the parents
3. the board of education

and you will be required to support postmodernist ideas that you may not believe.

Not to mention the low pay!
I'm the operations manager at a Dillard's store. I was promoted from dock manager. It's one of the reasons why I post seldomly here now. I've been with the company almost 4 years now. I do enjoy it. I suppose I enjoy most having to creatively find solutions to problems or ideas that come down to us from corporate or from the district/regional managers. I also like getting a month's worth of paid vacation too.
 
Retired now but in my former life I was an in home appliance repair technician for a local appliance store, and before that I was repair technician for Sears (product services) for 20+ years.......and of course, a weekend warrior in my band! My wife stills tells everybody that I can fix anything with a pocket knife and a spoon...and over the phone too.
 
Been retired a while now, but I used to work as second line computer support for a Major 'British' Airline. 😉
The work involved taking calls from users all over the World, and as such meant the desk had to be manned 24/7 so it was shift work.
Our systems covered Check-in, reservations/booking, flight ops, Cargo, & passenger information.
I quite liked the work, probably why I worked there for 37 years, but it did mean that you spent 99% of your time either doing nothing or fixing mundane problems, but the other 1% was manically trying to fix the system while planeloads of angry passengers waited to check-in at several Airports!
Because when our systems crashed, the whole Airline ground to a halt Worldwide and sometimes even made the National News!
That said the work was fun, and as at Weekends & on Nights I was on my own it left plenty of time for writing......and it paid well which is always a bonus!
 
My last job was running a kite club for people with disabilities. I set it all up, had the program done, But they didnt pay me after 6 weeks and free use of my kites, so I quit. They did eventually pay me, but not til after I quit.

Before that I managed a horse agistment on over 100acres with 44 horses. Mostly retired horses or young ones on spell. A couple of dangerous mares that people didnt want to put down but also couldn't be handled.

Before that I was a horse riding instructor for people with disabilities for a looong time. I started that work when I was about 14. Im also certified in equine assisted therapy and hippo therapy. I lived on the property (over 10 acres) with up to 16 ridden horses, it was 24/7 and very hard work. I didnt really realise how hard the work was until I stopped doing it haha.

I had other jobs around that job because it didn't pay well. I worked other horse jobs, house-sitting, markets, plus in childcare, waitressing, kitchen prep/short order, trackwork and yearling prep over the summers. Now I cant even manage gardening when it gets over 30C lol.

Yeah was considering becoming professor, but the amount of student loans & shootings scared me off.

Huh, in the UK nearly everyone classed as a worker gets at least 28 paid days off a year.
I am currently working as the "Media and Communications Director" for a church. However, in reality I'm the church secretary, social media manager, marketing and communications manager, and outreach director- for the pay of one role. It sucks and I'm looking for something else.

I know how that is! I've had a job like that. Totally burned me out.
I was a Mini Area Manager of a Wine Merchants (also known as a wine merchants/offi in UK).
I managed my shop and helped organise, run or cover around 10 other shops within the company I worked for. Loved it most of the time although the few weeks I worked 80 odd hours a week was a tad brutal. It was fun doing tastings in the shop for weekend events and evening groups. I also loved doing all the window displays and art work for the shop. Got my W.S.E.T level 1 & 2 and started my Diploma just before the company died 🙁 We used to travel to France to visit vineyards and have extra educational trips.... also the Wine & Spirit Festival was great fun!!! 🤪 🥂🍷🍾🍸🍻🍹
