What Do You Do With Your Old Buffy Tapes?

I just bought Buffy seasons 1-4 on DVD and they sure take up a lot less room than all my old VHS tapes. They look better too.

I was ready to scrap the tapes, but I started looking at them and found quite a bit not included among the DVD extras:

Interstitials (I think that's the term). Those little WB spots featuring the Buffy cast, sometimes saying "You're watching the WB" or something like that. Sometimes just looking cool.

Promos for upcoming episodes.

Promos for other shows on the WB.

Ads featuring cast members.

Local spots for our then locally owned WB affiliate KOFY-20.

And a nice collection of Victoria's Secret commercials.

Great. Now I have the DVDs, but I can't really get rid of the old tapes. What would you do?

All the episodes that are on tapes that I have on dvd now are in my dresser.

i am probably going to tape over "the gift" soon but i just cant! lol

You can't tape over "The Gift!" The DVD doesn't have the "previously on BtVS" thing...

I just leave the tapes lying around until I decide what to do with them, which won't be happening anytime soon.

i just leave them to sit there, i think its more of a 'Im so obsessed with the show, that even though i have them on DVD i still can't make myself tape over them!'

I would just leave them on my shelf, you never know what will happen in the future and do you know how hard it is to get TheWB promos...I always try to find them and I cant so if I were you I would definatly keep them. To bad you cant upload the "Your watching TheWB" promos with the cast members.

when I get the dvds, I have seasons 1-5 now, i give all my tapes to my friend who started watching in season 5 so she could catch up and as she hasnt got a dvd player she couldnt bother the dvds so I did that. very charitable really...lol

I downloaded all of the episodes off of Kazaa. (Don't worry, I am buying the DVDs as well.) It was the only way to get caught up after missing five and a half seasons of Buffy and two and a half of Angel. Now I feel bad because I missed out on all of the promos and WB introductions. The introduction for New Moon Rising was one of the only that was included with the Kazaa version, and it was really cool. It talked about how Rolling Stone called Buffy "the coolest show on TV." It really got me in the mood to watch Buffy (as if I am ever not in that mood). Were all of the WB's introductions that good? Am I the only one who did not particularly like UPN's introductions and promos?

With me buying Season 1 of Buffy in the video box set I've bought all the other seasons on video aswell. With the old tapes that I've taped off TV I just tape over them.

Well, that's not really an issue for me because I don't have the DVD's yet. Actually, I'm more of a VHS girl, anyway....I have a VCR in my room but not a DVD player, so if I want to watch tapes in the middle of the night, I can. But I guess if I had the DVD's and wanted to save space by moving the tapes, I'd put them all in a big box in the closet.

To RandyGiles: All the WB spots were around that good, which is to say, not only the spots for Buffy, but for all their shows. WB knows how to do spots. Unlike UPN. LOL

Once I purchase the boxset's I tape over any episode's which are still on VHS tapes.

I am of the VHS crowd not yet purchased the DVDs. But when I do get the DVDs I would store the videos away, you never know when you will have to call upon them eg. friends in need, DVD breaks, DVD stolen, DVD destoryed by freak storm.......

I've still got all of mine even though I have the DVDs, but I tape almost every show I watch, and I never get rid of any of them. They're just another 20+ tapes in my collection of about 300. You should keep them, Dizzy -- it's like a part of Buffy history!🙂

LOL...I tape over them...I have been since I got season 1-but know I'm thinking about all those promos, and I'm missing them!🙁

I give them to others to spread the insanity...when you babble on and on about a show for so long people around you will watch for either the sake to shut you up or for the sake of just seeing what the big deal is...it works every time...😀

Funny, I'm actually having this same dilemma as we speak. I'm wicked frugal so once I get the DVDs I tape over the eps so I save money on buying new tapes, but I'm having so much trouble with this one!!
