What do you do for a living?

Ok, so there's a big spread of ages on here, so where for some of us it's mostly in the rearview mirror, some of
you are just starting out on your working life......

So, what did you/do you/do you want to, do?

I started out as an apprentice in Avionics, then moved into a fledgling IT department.....
All for the same big company (Only ever worked for one company 😕 )
Last summer my department got outsourced so I'm currently on 'Gardening leave' (a paid retainer in case the outsourcing company screw up) until June, then I have to decide if I can afford to retire or if I need to find another job......
 
Yes interesting thread topic, I love finding out about people's lives! (Although that does sound creepy)

your work seems interesting! And yes, unfortunately for me I'm just starting out in the working world. I worked in retail for maybe ffour years after high school and now I work in childcare.
It's hard work, not what people would expect. It's not really the dream job either but I need to stick with it a while until I figure out my dream job lol.

It's not creepy.....just erm, natural curiosity (That's what I'm telling myself anyway) 😉

No, I never actually found my dream job....I was going to join the Royal Navy when I left school, but for some reason that never happened......
 
I work in an accounts department. It's very dull. Which is why you'll find me on here often during the day. I'm yet to decide if it hurts my productivity or helps by keeping my mind active.

Ha! I'd say it helps to keep your mind active for sure!
 
When I moved into IT I figured I would probably stick it out for about 4 years........30 years later I was still there 😕

I was ready to quit on day 1. Coming up to 9 years
I was a Customs Officer, but Customs & Excise became extinct and now we are all Border Force Officers. What I'd really like to do is win the lottery, but I'll stick with BF till that happens 😉

Studying Accounting and Criminal Psychology at Uni while working part time. Don't get the best money and can't afford to move out yet but I'll get there eventually 🙂

I'm studying archivistics and digital information management at University and I work at a gift boutique to pay the bills!
 
I work as a fairy-tale storyteller at the loony bin. 😛

Well, meaning being a troubleshooter working for the chemical industy. 😉
 
I've done many many jobs in my time. Ranging from Librarian to Nurse. The job I loved the most however (that I kinda just fell into), was a management in the wine industry. Loved it 😀 Now I'm a full-time Mum. That's ok too!! LOL Joking love it more.

I'm guessing it went something like.... "I like wine, I love wine.... I WANT TO MANAGE WINE!" ;-)
God knows how many years as an international landscape gardener. I did just over 15 years as a volunteer bush fire fighter.
 
Retired electrical engineer with a background in remote sensing, spacecraft, military flat panel cockpit displays and power conversion. Five years in spacecraft work showed me how absolutely screwed up a major program can get. However, every project was successful, but I could tell you stories - we had a consultant from Lockheed Missiles and Space there for a while and on his last day, we went to the local pub and listened to him regale us with stories of launches gone wrong. If anyone is interested enough, I could recount them.
 
I'm a music tutor, specializing in drums, guitar and bass. I started running my own business for it since I was 17 part time (I'm a few weeks away from being 27) until 2014 when I went full time. I've done other random part time jobs in between that. And went to England for six months last year so didn't teach at all during that time.

Now I'm back to doing it part time and starting to study at uni to be a counselor.
