I had only been on two fan forums before, Rockstar INXS and Rockstar Supernova, and by comparison, this is more intelligent and far more civil. I can remember reading threads that ran five pages on Rockstar Supernova in the morning and finding the mods had cut it down to two pages by evening for perfectly justifiable reasons. People were making stupid accusations - one was that a guy who lived six miles west of me in Mississauga (in the Toronto area) was having an affair with a single mother in Auckland NZ. We don't get this type of behaviour around here. The backbiting got so bad that there was a faction that formed their own forum which could only be joined by invitation (and yes, I was invited).
This place has no such issues. We have some people who are incompatible with each other on this board but so far, none of them have sunk to uttering baseless claims of immorality against another person. There was a battle at one time between the Bangels and the Spuffies but that was to be expected and it died out starting about ten years ago.
The fact that this board still exists more than 20 years after the last episode aired is a testament to our members trying to maintain contact with like-minded people who believe that Buffy was a milestone in television entertainment and it managed to show the ugly as well as the good about relationships, something the antiseptic family dramas of the time never did. It showed the "high school is hell" trope a lot better than other shows of the time and for all of us who went through high school, we could relate to everything they ran into.
