What do you think about surgery

Personally, I had a lot of major surgery when I was young, so the thought of volunteering for more is a total no-no! 😱

Not against other people doing it, but its not for me......

Besides that horse has well & truly bolted for me....way too late for that kind of thing now 🙁 If they tried to do a facelift on me they would have to keep my face where it is & lower the rest of me! 😛
 
When I was 20 I used to say I'd grow old gracefully . . . now I'm old, I'd do anything to look younger 😛 OK, maybe not anything, but if I could afford it I'd definitely have surgery. I do spend a lot of money on my hair, and creams and potions to help keep the wrinkles at bay. If you're young, don't be too judgemental and if you're a man don't be too disdainful, this world is hard for women as they age and believe me I'm not even a girly-girl type. I do believe in smashing the patriarchy , but I wanna look good doing it ok! 😀

I have mixed feelings about your simple words as it can be applied to things like anorexia and bulimia, or the choice to take diet pills or even heroin (the latter has been taken in the hopes of rapid weight loss, though to my knowledge the weight loss comes from throwing up what little food one manages to take in).

And what about those who make people feel ugly so they'll take risky elective surgery or many other drastic and risky things to alter their appearance fast? Or tell them if they want a mere chance in Hollywood or modeling or whatever, that they'll do it?
 
It's not for me, but who cares what other people do as long as they're not harming anyone.

And we all have preferences anyway. Maybe I don't find it attractive, but other people do. Plenty of people don't find my piercings attractive and that's not an issue, but I do take issue when they go out of their way to talk to me and tell me how I'm mutilating my face and that I'd be so much prettier without (funny this actually happened today). If you tell someone they are ugly than you're just an ass.
 
I skimmed the thread, but for the title question - I prefer the self acceptance approach. This is where I get in trouble in the trans arguments, I cannot see how surgery is a better option than the 'love yourself first' approach. In whatever body you are given.

It sucks that people profit SO much from insecurity.

I know mothers who will not leave the house unless they have make up on. What do they expect? Street interviews on their mascara choice at Coles? Whyyyyyyy????


I have another 60 year old friend who has done so many surgery trips to Thailand that she looks younger than her children now. At least none of hers was botched. Another friend got a boob job and couldn't breast feed cos of it, she swore her modelling career wouldn't need children in it. Lawlz

I've no problem with plastic surgery, I mean I definitely think people should do their research, be ready to pay for a good surgeon (like this is not the time to bargain hunt!), and be sure it's what you want. It's easy to look at extreme cases and use them as examples as to why it's a good idea, but it's hardly the case that everyone who gets something done develops an addiction or disorder.

@WillowFromBuffy all the fake tits I've touched have felt pretty nice, not really hard at all. But I guess it depends on what they're made of, so many choices these days. 🙂

... leave the face alone. Or at least tread very carefully. As said, many people end up looking bizarre in a way I hardly imagine was the idea, which is unfortunate. I believe Courtney Cox recently said something about regretting the surgery she'd had to her face, but once you've had it, it's too late and trying to fix it can make it worse. So, you know, do what you want, but be sure to give it a good think first.

That said, if I was brave enough (or had the money) I'd love to get a nose job.

We did a mass horse poo pick up in 38c heat after a Mary Kay party once. We looked horrifying.
 
The way I see it, if they want to spend their money on themselves in some way, then more power to them, however I do think that they need to invest in a quality surgeon and get proper advice before going under the knife. Like if you want bigger breasts then that's fine, but maybe you need some advice on whether those bigger breasts will make you feel better?

I'm actually having some minor surgery in the new year and I'm seeing a cosmetic surgeon as I'll need a skin graft. I have joked that I'll take the two for the price of one special and come out with some double-d's at the same time. 😀 But I won't. Probably. 😛
 
My sister had a tummy tuck after she dropped a lot of weight...but Jesus, the scar on her abdomen is monstrous. What's the point in having a perfectly flat stomach when you can't show it off? 😱

It is not that I am incapable of doing two things at once. I just doubt someone would be willing to let me fondle their breasts at the same time as I am working to figure out how I can compress my homework into less than 100MB. Breasts come attached to people and people have feelings and agency which can be so inconvenient sometimes.
 
I kinda think it's cowardly. But it's also not my position to judge other people who do it.
