What do you think Buffy and Angel said to each other when they met "half way"?

They talk about this at the beginning of Buffy S6 and Angel S3, right when Buffy comes back from the dead. They rush to meet one another at a special place, but we're never told where, and both of them say that they don't want to talk about it when their friends ask what happened. What do you think happened? Do you think the place they met was somewhere they met before in the series?

It went something like this:

BUFFY: Did you bring the clones?

ANGEL: Yeah, they're in the car. They look and sound exactly like us, and they're uploaded with our memories and vague approximations of our personalities.

BUFFY: Great. Nobody will know the difference.

ANGEL: My thoughts exactly. Okay, let's go travel the world together and never come back.

And this would explain the spuffy and cangel. They were clones. I believe that the true B&A are gone to Galway :)
Something like...

(Location: A rather seedy motel room located exactly halfway between Sunnydale and Los Angeles [there's a Holiday Inn just down the road, but it's half a mile too close to Sunnydale])

Angel: Oh, Buffy, my darling, my love, my life, my...

Buffy: Don't "Darling" me, you self centered clod! Where were you all summer when the gang had to take up the slack for me and patrol the hellmouth? Where were you when Dawn was crying all night long because her big sister was gone? Where were you when...

Angel: Oh, but, my darling, my dearest, my...

Buffy: One more attempt at sweet talk and I'm gonna put my boot so far up your a** that you'll taste shoe polish for the rest of the month. Now, answer my question. WHERE WERE YOU?

Angel: I was so grief stricken by the loss of my one true...

Buffy: Angel, your a**, my foot. Now, stay focused. Why weren't you here helping my friends?

Angel: Oh, my d...(he stops in mid sentence went when Buffy silently points to her right foot and starts over) on a retreat to this monastery that I know when Buffy silently points to her right foot and starts over)
on a retreat to this monastery that I know of to meditate and come to terms with my great loss.

Buffy: A monastery? A MONASTERY?

Angel (warming to the subject): Well, it USED to be a monastery. Now it's sort of a health spa. There's indoor tennis, and art classes, and,,,Have you ever been horseback riding under a full moon? There's this beautiful lake, and several of us would go skinny dipping... (He gets no further, interrupted by Buffy's right fist colliding painfully with his jaw, sending him crashing to the floor)

Buffy: You went skinny dipping while my friends were risking their very lives in Sunnydale? You stupid, self centered, uncaring, disgusting... (She stops and takes a deep breath, bringing herself back under control with difficulty) WHAT THE HELL HAVE YOU GOT TO SAY FOR YOURSELF THAT WILL KEEP ME FROM STAKING YOUR A** RIGHT HERE AND NOW?

Angel (getting slowly back to his feet, adjusting his jacket to cover up the slight pot belly that he had developed over the summer from eating too much ice cream) : Just this one thing, and I'm sure that you can't deny it. (He pauses momentarily for effect, then says in a clear voice) If Kean had written this instead of the White Avenger, it would have been a helluva lot more romantic.

Buffy silently nods.

(Fade to black)

Dedicated all Bangels everywhere, but especially for my favorite one. You know who you are.

Honestly? I think it was awkward and bittersweet exchange. She probably told him what happened, how she died, but not specifics, and not about being in Heaven. He probably told her he was glad she was back and that she was okay. They probably made small talk and parted, wishing they'd said more.

I'm sure this has been explored in many a fic.

Angel knows that Buffy was in paradise. He speaks with Skip in "Inside Out"
Oh this is intersting. As someone who loves Buffy but has yet to work his way through the Angel series, I always assumed Buffy rushing off to meet Angel was shown in an Angel episode??

No, it was not. The shows were on 2 different networks at that point, and crossovers that season were not allowed.

That is something that I really do wish that we could get an official answer on. Did Angel know about Buffy being taken out of heaven? I would prefer to think that she chose not to tell him, probably because she felt that his own mission was too important for him to be distracted from it. The alternative would be that Angle, knowing Buffy's mental state, chose to go beck to "his city" rather than be there for her in what was undoubtedly the lowest point of her entire career.

(And in this instance, I don't see her telling Spike about what really happened as any sort of Spuffy plus point, before I get accused of it. Spike was simply the friend who was there, who COULD be there for her, in a time when she needed a friend to talk to and when she couldn't talk to any of her other friends.)

I have yet to see/read a satisfactory imagining of this scene. Nothing I've read seems to fit with who I believe Buffy and Angel to be, as individuals and as people who care about each other.

I don't believe that Angel could have dealt with her death whilst believing she was in a Hell dimension, so that means he believed her to be in Heaven. I also don't believe he could see her and not see how shattered she was by the whole experience, or that she didn't need help and looking after. I just don't see how if Buffy and Angel were being true to who they are that Angel wouldn't come to help her get better, or invite her to L.A. for the same reason.

Of course, S6 was choc full of characters behaving in a way that is not consistent to who we knew them to be. *cough* Giles *cough*.

If network drama and actors being unavailable wasn't an issue, I think this season would have made a lot more sense.

I'm bothh surprised and honored that you have read all of my fan fiction. I really didn't think that "The Spufft Realm" was on your reading list. Adopt-A-Bangel must be working.

Agreed, I think the audio commentary of ep1 S3 of Angel even mentions that the writers were told to try and not mention the name 'Buffy' at all. Since the two shows were on different networks.

What could have been, if their hands weren't tied?

Yeah, but even if there hadn't been the network crossover issue, I don't think that there would have been a great amount of character interaction between the two shows. It would have pretty much defeated the whole idea of having two separate series, each with its own unique story line. Angel had his own mission, and, as much as he would have obviously WANTED to be there for Buffy, he just couldn't have done it. Likewise, as much as Buffy might have WANTED to either run away to LA and stay with Angel, she had her own mission, her own duties, and, yes, her own life to get on with.

At the most, we might have seen or heard about a lot of phone conversations and e-mails between the Buffy and Angel. Much more than that wouldn't have been possible.

This was on the Whedonesque Tumblr the other week. I don't know where it comes from, but it has a DarkHorse logo:
