What do you think is the TRUTH?

How can you say that so sure? How do you want to know that something we call 'supernatural' isn't science after all? Just look back in history. Do you think a few centuries back earthquakes and lightnings were science to people? I'm not saying you're wrong, just there's so much we don't know about the world yet that it might be too early to become judgemental.

So thats not supernatural then Its unknown.

I believe in ghosts. I do believe my house is haunted, and I even think I know exactly who my ghost is. Though she hasn't been around much lately. I was so fascinated by her at one point that I wrote a short story from her perspective, though it was for school and I had to follow all these stupid rules, so I didn't much like it.

I have a very old house. We tore down the mud room and pantry a few years back to build an addition and found newspapers from the 1880's or '90's. So years before that, I was having all sorts of problems with the door to my room. Some piece was missing in the doorknob mechanism, so I would continually get locked in and out of my bedroom. Finally, we took the doorknob off, but I wanted a way to be able to close my door, so I installed a hook and eye to both sides of my door.
Now, I have a very neurotic dog. One night, she was freaking out in the hallway, and I went to try to pacify her. While I was sitting there, I almost got her to stop panting completely when my door opened. The hook came undone from the eye, with a loud clang, which freaked my dog out even more. That happened many more times, when no one else was upstairs. I would be fixing something to eat in the kitchen and hear the clang, so I'd go to close the door again, and I wouldn't get to the bottom of the stairs before it would clang again.
My ghost is very benign.

I don't know the extent of my belief as far as witchcraft and vampires and demons and such are concerned, but I do believe in resurrection/past lives, because of something that happened to a friend of mine. Alas, I do not have time to tell that story now, I have to get to work! The public needs its ice cream!

As far as we're talking magic, yes I think it's possible. Probably not like in calling on goddesses in Latin or whatever, more in a natural way.
Trust me, you can lift your face to the sky and scream "Deos voco!" ("I call the gods") all you want; nothing will happen. Though, it has gotten me extra credit on some Latin tests! 🙂

VERY interesting thread.

I think that there is a perfectly logical, natural explanation for things that people perceive as supernatural. I just think that we don’t necessarily have all of the facts or the background necessary to suss out the truth. I think there are a lot of things that humans, either individually or as a society, don’t understand about the world. I don’t usually like to get too specific about what I believe is possible and what I believe isn’t possible, but I will say that I don’t think most of the supernatural explanations that we have developed jive with the laws of physics. That sort of leaves me waaay more on the skeptic side than on the believer side when it comes to specific creatures and events. So, while I believe in the “supernatural” as manifestations of natural phenomena that we don’t yet understand, I don’t believe in most of the myths that people have created in order to explain those phenomena.

Even so, I have to admit that my reluctance to believe and my reliance on logical, rational explanations for things come from a place of fear. I am afraid of what I don’t understand. I am afraid of what believing in the unexplained would mean for me as a person or for my understanding of reality as a whole. So… if I try to apply logic to something, but I still can’t wrap my brain around it, I tend to try to ignore, disbelieve, deny, or rationalize that experience away. When I was younger, (and not necessarily “very” young, either) I had a number of experiences that I couldn’t explain away. I didn’t start to become unemotional, super-rational girl (my college friends called me a “Vulcan” as a joke) until my late teens. If I’m being honest, I have to admit that I kind of consciously developed that part of my personality in order to overcompensate for and/or to shut off the part that not only believed in, but had some experiences with, things that had no rational, logical explanation. Even now, when stress or life events cause me to let that little protective mental shield slide a little bit, things can sometimes get a little weird. It’s like… sometimes, people experience things that they don’t understand, so the only thing they can do with that experience is decide they’re insane, decide they believe in a certain religious or supernatural explanation, or wish it away behind a wall of logic. I’m not ready to deal with those kinds of things, so, as a sort of defense mechanism, I usually choose the third option.

Nice response. And I'm a mixture of the first and second options. Not the third though because well, logic has no place in my life. Anywhere. Haha.
I believe that anything is possible really. Vampires, ghosts, demons... although not in the big scary ugly form we see on tv, but in some form I really believe that they exist.

I've had a couple encounters with what you could call "ghosts". They weren't floating sheet covered see through beings... it was more like a feeling. Like that feeling you get when you know someone is standing behind me, or when you hear your name called and no one is around. Ever since my father died in 2005, it's like I'm constantly at the mercy of these feelings. Sometimes I feel hands on my back, comforting me, or I wake up in the middle of the night and all the lights are on or things aren't where they are supposed to be.

Eh. These things aren't proof... by any standards... but I believe in them.

Not too sure on my position on the supernatural. I think vampires and demons MIGHT exist. Sometimes I don't feel safe outside at night unless I have a weapon nearby. (Anything can be a weapon, really, so I'm usually always feeling okay.) I think I believe in ghosts. I agree with people that say there's a lot we don't understand and can't begin to comprehend. I used to think our bathroom was haunted...well, lemme tell the story:

A lot of the time when I'm home alone or just sitting on the computer, I'll hear a noise coming from the bathroom. I remember I once (once equalling like a week ago) tried to talk to the "ghost" (as I thought it was) and I tried everything.

I told my mom and she reminded me the dog liked to jump on the bathroom window from outside...

Do I believe in ghosts? that's a yes. I've seen lot's of them. Include in that; ghosts that aren't visible, to ghosts that are as solid as you or me.
Do demons occur?, I've seen what they can do, St Nectans Glen, Tintagel. I've felt an evil presence, just south of Luton UK. Berry Pomeroy Castle, South Devon, UK is said to have one of its ghosts that is an evil entity. Several other ghosts near there are said to have glowing red eyes, so either they've been swimming in over chlorinated water or its a sign they ain't to friendly.
I was once a ghost hunter and I saw a lot of things, both good and bad. Once these I knew people were scared by a friendly ghost, rather than do an exorcism I asked the ghost to move on, or not make itself known to them.
Do vampires exist, I suppose they got the idea from some-one, long before western civilisations got hold of the idea in the early 1800's. But just because I haven't seen one, doesn't mean I'm gonna say they don't exist.
Do the things in the series exist, probably yes but you know what Hollywood is like; If it can be exaggerated - do it!

I would like to believe in ghosts / spirits etc. (it would make the idea of dying so much easier) ... but I don't... the tricky thing is since I don't, people tell me I'm bad energy or whatever and that therefore, I'll never see / feel one... BUT I won't believe in ghosts / spirits until I've experienced something to do with them, because stories from other people are just not good enough for me, no matter how genuine you are or think you are... so basically, I'm stuck in the non-believing state of mind (being in Scotland & living in a very old building, you'd think there would be more chance of me actually experiencing something, but I guess my "negative energy" prevents that :silly🙂.

I don't have any strong opinions about anything regarding the supernatural, but I certainly believe that there are things that defy science. I would never say that I didn't believe in the supernatural, since I almost feel like that's saying humanity is omniscient. I strongly believe that things can and do defy science, the laws of physics, etc.

Do I believe in vampires? Well, not really. I feel like they were invented as a metaphor for bloodthirst, and how strong and irresistible it can be. But if I did find out that they were real, I certainly wouldn't change my philosophy on the world. Do I believe in ghosts? I'm not a strong believer, but I do think there's a chance that there could be spirits about. As for demons, etc...well, anything is possible, I suppose. Like InsaneMystic said, I don't even know if the world actually exists.

The only "supernatural" thing I do believe in are aliens. I definitely think there's life on other planets. I just don't think they're gonna be flying around here in UFOs and probing people.

I don't believe that there's negative energy. I certainly thought more about "guardian angels" when I felt sad and felt "hugged" more than ghosts. It wasn't until the incident with the dog in the cemetary that I really started believing in "ghosts". It certainly was creepy and eye opening.
I think the bigger problem is that people who don't believe have more of a tendency to write off a "random" incident (someone you didn't know personally) as too much beer or a trick or even something you imagined.

The bar my husband and I met at claimed to be haunted. I never SAW her, but it was said she "moved people's beers" after closing. Well, okay, maybe she did maybe she didn't. But, it always just seemed a little iffy to me. I mean, it always felt just as easy to me that any of us drinking while cleaning the bar up, could "misplace" our beer on our own or one of the other people cleaning could move it or toss it. It's not like they all appeared above the coolers or anything. Just "moved".

Yeah, I would definitely tend to think that things are due to randomness, chance etc.
The truth is, people believe what they want to believe whether there is actually any evidence(there never is, by the way) to support their beliefs or not.

We know so little, but what we do know we can prove.
What we don't know, we can't prove.

It is that simple.

Oh, and also, the brain is a remarkable thing, fear can affect it so much.

The truth about Supernatural?

season 2 was great!: popcorn:

lol.... Welcome back
One of the problems with this world is there are some people who say, ' no, it isn't true ', regardless of what is.
A lot of people stated quite adamantly that the world was flat despite the proof, chances are they used to say it is that simple as well.
I'd show you the proof, but why bother.
Bit like saying 1 = 1, the majority of people in this world will believe it, and know it to be true even though it can be mathematically prooven untrue.

I was once a ghost hunter and I saw a lot of things, both good and bad.

That reminds me. When we were staying in Oxford with our English class last year, we went through town. Our teacher told us this 'ghost story' about one of the colleges (or it might've been something else, I don't remember exactly, it was already late and we were flooded by all the things we saw that evening) and I want to know if it's true or if our teacher just tried to freak the hell out of at least us girls. According to our teacher, you can hear the piano playing in there sometimes at night, and a healthy man (tourist) died of unknown causes in this house some years back. So is it true?

Question is, does it matter?

I *think* i had a ghostly experience once but i know it just might have been something else.
If you believe, do you believe in an after life?

I sort of think some ghost experiences can be explained as sort of a "hiccup" in time. I'm no physicist, but the math tells us pretty clearly that time isn't linear, right? If you believe Einstein and many more contemporary physicists, time is one of a currently undetermined number of dimensions (no one can agree on a number of dimensions yet) that can be bent and altered by forces like gravity and motion. Also, the perception of time is, theoretically, largely dependent upon the observer. So... what if when you see a "ghost" at one of these so-called supernatural hotspots, you're really just in a place in which certain forces and your own perception have slightly distorted time so that you perceive a past or future event that you would not otherwise perceive?

This occurred to me when my friend reported a "ghost" sighting in the bathroom of our old dorm. Point of interest: the building was built in 1842. My friend said that she went into the bathroom, chose a stall, and did her business. While she was in the stall, the door swung open and a sneaker-clad person entered and chose a stall. My friend then flushed and left her stall and went out to wash her hands. When she turned around, all of the stalls were open and empty and she was alone in the bathroom. It gave her what a Buffy fan might call a "wiggens."

When my friend told me that story, it just seemed a lot more likely that my friend had witnessed a slight alteration in time than that our friendly neighborhood ghost had had to take a non-corporeal whiz. Lol.

Thing is, has Time been around forever or did it just start one day?
What is time then?

Time would be around equally long as Space, as the (very tiny) bit I understand from Einstein & Hawking point to that the two concepts are pretty much the same anyway... So time would have "started" with the Big Bang and/or the Creation of the universe (pick whatever concept/s you're comfortable with), as "before" that, there was no Space and thus no Time either. (Thinking about words like "before" and "starting" in that context gives me a headache anyway.)

Time is a mankind-made concept to measure between two points ie from the big bang to now. Or the length of a day, hour, minute, week, month etc:
You can measure the ' time ' from before the big bang if you want to. But why?
So, a watch is the same as the trip meter on a speedometer, a watch measures time and a trip gauge measures distance, both are just mankinds creations to measure something.

I agree that the measurement of time is a human construction, but time will pass whether we measure it or are aware of it or not.

Exactly. How can time/space just have started. If there was nothing before that, well, how impossible is that!!!
