What does being a Bangel mean to you?

We have a Spuffy thread like this, and I've enjoyed reading everyone's answers and found myself wondering about you silly Bangels.

So what does Bangel mean to you and what does shipping Bangel mean to you?

It makes me belive in forgivness; that real love will forgive you even if it's all gone wrong.
It makes me hope that real love is out there, and even though it's not ideal all the time, it is possible to find someone out there that is perfect for you.
It taught me that love isn't just about yourself, making yourself happy; it's about giving as well as receiving (haha...just thought of Joey's speech at Chandeler and Monica's wedding lol). This is a really important point for me, as I feel that happy relationships should be about equality and equal amounts of love
Shipping Bangel gives me a role model: it's likely that life won't be exactly like that, but it's taught me what is important in a relationship, whether romantic or other wise. It's a good model to follow IMO, rather than a descructive relationship.

To me, being a Buffy/Angel shipper means being a supporter of true love against all the cruel obstacles that try to tear it apart. Two people who complement each other as beautifully and love each other as deeply and selflessly as Buffy and Angel do and who can make each other feel as happy and safe and peaceful as they do should be allowed to be together. The fact that they aren't makes their relationship almost painfully compelling, if it wasn't already. Taking their side feels just, and it feels like the story can never be over until they're together (although I'd be happy for some story after they're together, too, to make up for some of the heartache of the separation). I never saw anything to convince me that either of them would be happier with anyone else, so supporting those other pairings would, among other objections, be like letting the unfair obstacles win and settling for "acceptable happiness" when I know perfect happiness is an option.

I'm not sure how to put it into words... Like some people. But even as I'm doing a Buffy re-watch, I still ship Bangel. Why?

Because they connected so well together. Angel isn't like Spike. Angel was everything that Spike wasn't. Angel was good to Buffy. And they're so in love with each other. I just can't help but fall in love with Bangel again.


Btw, it's not to say that I hate Spike or anything.

It's like shipping Piper/Leo on Charmed. They were meant for each other.

Being a Bangel means everything to me. They confirm everything I know. About love, about need, about friendship, about understanding, about forgiving, and about life in general. They were my teachers. I grew up with them. They showed me what being in love means. They showed me that sometimes you have to make mistakes.. because of them I'm not scared of making mistakes, and I'm not scared of asking help when I need one. They taught me that sometimes you have to let go, and that letting go is not such a bad thing, because sometimes you need to smack things so they can fall back together in a better way. Bangel means everything to me.

Since I ship both Spuffy and Bangel, I figured I better post in this thread as well.

I like Bangel because to me it is two individuals who are deeply in love and yet put their family, friends and the fate of the world above their own desires and happiness.

Buffy and Angel are both leaders, heroes and champions and they understand and respect each other on a level that the other people in their lives can't. They share an incredible burden and responsibility and are less alone because of each other.

(in response to patriot1123) It's interesting to me that more people don't ship both. I mean if you're only a Spuffy do you not like the first three seasons of Buffy? If you're a Bangel do you not like the later seasons? I'm very anti-Briley and it does hurt my enjoyment of Season 4 and their break-up pretty much saves Season 5 for me.

Together. Apart. It doesn't matter.

Bangel has always shown me what being strong means.

And I don't just mean physical strenght. But strength of will. Strength of heart. Strength of the soul.

To me, they epitomise never giving up. In standing fast to what you know in your bones and your blood to be true, but the world is doing its very best to convince you is not.

They mean not accepting a lesser version of yourself, just because it is easier. Not accepting a lesser love or life, because they are easier too.

The fact that they have never loved another as they continue to love each other, even when time, space and circumstance keeps them apart, is the triumph of love itself. A love that has not altered even when it alteration finds.

What I adore even more is that even though they cannot be together, it has not stopped them trying to be the best versions of themselves apart. As Riley Finn so wonderfully put it:

We're together even when we're not.

B/A and being a Bangel is about believing in something and being strong enough to see it through. Even if you are the only one who believes.

That is BANGEL. Angel loses soul when he feels moment of PERFECT happiness. Not just any happiness. Keep that on mind. When he finds peace with her, when they make their unity in soul , spirit, mind and body. After they interwine he changes. Really is a curse.
