What Does Joyce Mean?

I'm beginning to accept the idea that the spirit of Joyce that has been appearing in different incarnations in Season 7 is the real thing, and not a trick of the First.

Assuming that's the case, what does she mean when she tells Dawn "Buffy won't choose you?"

I'm starting to think maybe the word "choose" is significant. Choose as in "Chosen" as in "The Chosen One".
 
Maybe it has something to do with what Maya said in 'first date '

she said

"The end is coming. The final fight.
And everyone is hearing the drumbeat.
It's telling us to pick our partners,
align ourselves with the good or the
evil. "

So when it comes Buffy's turn to 'pick her partner' she wont choose Dawn.

I refuse to believe that Joyce would come back and say such a mean thing... she was so loving.

I believe that was the First, but Joyce will make her true appearance at some point I hope.
 
i totally still believe that that was joyce's ghost preparing dawn for what's to come. it seems too significant for her to really be the first and have that mean nothing in the end.
 
Well the last two episodes are called Chosen correct? (althought looking now I see the second last one has changed? anyone got any info on this?) I am assuming this is probably related. As for what Joyce said, I think it was the ghost of Joyce telling Dawn that when the time comes Buffy will have to choose saving the world over saving Dawn's life.
 
I don't know what to believ. Although, I have two theories...

1: It was the spirit of Joyce warning Dawn about a future event concerning Buffy.

2: It was the First, trying to turn Dawn against Buffy, making her think that Buffy isn't really on her side.
 
I'm liking Bunnies theory now. It makes more sense than mine. Another one I'm starting to like is Buffy will have to choose who to go with her to fight the final battle, and she won't choose Dawn. This will leave Dawn alone, and she won't like that.

I still have a stubborn affection for my original Buffy will choose the chosen one theory, though. Wanna hear my support for it? It's weird.

You know those symbols the bringers carved into Spike's chest when the first freed the Turok-Han? I've come to the conclusion they're Greek. On the Seal of Dantha(l)zar you can find the Greek symbols for Alpha and Omega (the beginning and the end). At one time one of the last episodes if not the last episode had the working title of "Parthogenisis" according to Buffyworld.com. Parthogenisis is a Greek word (I believe). Simplisticly, it means "birth from nothing". I put all that together, mixed it up, twisted it around, and came up with the idea a new slayer will be born from nothing.

At first i didnt think at all it was Joyce, becuase i knew about The First and everything, but as we get more SITS, Buffy and Dawn seem to drift further and further apart, they dont seem like sisters anymore. I dont know if this is a spoiler, but i will say it is.
In an upcoming eppy (noting that it hasnt already come) Giles asks Buffy if, now, she would sacrifice Dawn to save the world, she says yes.

Dawn is supposed to die in the end, dont know if its truem but thats the rumour

I have my left hand locked onto my high-lighting hand. I want to look so bad, but I'm determined to kick the spoiler habit.

I just need to know one thing. Please tell me. Does the spoiler you posted disprove all possibilities the phrase "Buffy won't choose you" is significant?
 
Buffy Not Choosing Dawn

I believe that it was in fact Joyce who visited Dawn, as Buffy wasn't visited by the First, it was only Willow. Oh, and Spike who was used by the first that night via his trigger. Anyway, i believe that what Joyce meant was the following...

When the time comes, and Buffy has to save the world, she won't choose to save Dawn before someone else. SOmeone else, more important to Buffy than Dawn will b chosen by Buffy to live and in doing so, is sacrificing Dawn's life.

How does that sound? ::angel::
 
OK I actually caught this episode tonight on a local station up here (Space), and not only does Joyce say Buffy will not choose her, at the end she says "She will be against you."

Now could this mean that Dawn has to kill Buffy? Or maybe Buffy kills Dawn? 😱
 
I have a bunch of confusing and contradictory theories, but one of them concerning Joyce is this:

I think it is Joyce and she means that Buffy will not choose Dawn to be the next Slayer. Buffy wouldn;t want Dawn to be the next slayer and I think if Buffy gets to choose, then she will not pick Dawn. On the otherhand, it's not really like Joyce to be so cryptic. On the other hand why would the First stage that elaborate scene? WHen it approached Willow, it just appeared but with Dawn it was all weird and stuff.

SO I am pretty much confused and now that I think about it, my theory really doesn't make much sense, btu I still think it is Joyce.

We won't know whether it was really Joyce or not until the end, of course. (Unless we look at dirty spoilers.)

However, I think that it was Joyce and that she's giving Dawn a warning and an Omen. At the time of this writing, the last episode I saw was Storyteller.

Based on Buffy's behavior in Storyteller and Get It Done, and based on what the Joyce-apparition said to Dawn in Conversations With Dead People and based on what Buffy said to her "psychotherapist" in Conversations With Dead Peole, and based on what the Joyce-apparition said to Buffy in Sleeper...

[dramatic pause] 😉

I think Buffy's going to make a terrible, terrible mistake at a critiical moment at the end. And she'll have to be stopped. And that might mean killing her.

Buffy's so locked in to this "this is WAR" path. And she's got it wrong. You don't beat the First Evil by going to war with it. That's a really stupid idea.

From beneath you it devours--and in case no one's paying attention, Buffy Summers is currently being devoured one little piece at a time.

Okay, now that I think about it, I'm not sure if the Joyce apparition talked to Buffy in Sleeper or if it was in some other episode.
