It may sound ridiculous, but it's true, Buffy (and Angel) got me through SO much in my life. I escaped into a world that took me away from everything in my life. I remember watching the entire series of Buffy and Angel and being completely immersed in the shows. Buffy is seriously like a drug for me. Although there is nothing like seeing the series for the first time, it doesn't pack the same punch it did years ago, but it still carries so much emotion and memories for me, and when i watch it, I am completely comfortable. I feel like i'm "home" when i'm watching Buffy.

I will always remember my all-nighters watching Buffy and Angel and the whole vibe of my surroundings while I watched.

Best times ever!

What does Buffy mean for you?

🙂

Great topic
I completely agree with everything you posted. For me I discovered Buffy at a time when I was really discovering who I was as a person and Buffy and its characters really helped define me. It may sound overly dramatic but Buffy and most of Joss' work really touches on the core of who I am as a person and who I want to be. It's funny cuz when people say I'm more confident, patient or some other type of compliment than they're used to I really want to credit growing up on Buffy but I know they just won't get it.

I totally get it. Your not alone ;)
Yeah. I'm like you guys. Buffy was a huge influence on me.

In fact, it taught me a lot of really important things. About being a strong independent woman. And about how there are a lot of sides to every situation. Before I watched this show, I saw the world in a very black and white way. It taught me to see the gray and to really think about people and situations more deeply.

It actually changed my world view. Probably because I started watching it at a pretty young age, when you're making discoveries like this. It's still totally awesome though.

The Buffyverse is something that is so part of me, that it's actually me, it's who I am. I'm not me if I'm Buffy-less. Buffy has been with me for 14 years, and the fact that all these years and I'm still really into it, I think that means that it's real, it's a relationship. Not like many shows I see that youngsters nowdays have, that they say that they're huge fans and can't live without it, screaming and crying when they see the stars walking by... then it's over and they skip to the next thing, as though their "true love" never happened. That's not true "fanning". Try 14 years of loyalty. Not one week of adoring a hot guy on a movie and then forget all about him when a new trend shows up. That's why I hate trends, and I'm glad Buffy isn't and never been one.

It's a big part of my life.

I grew up with the show. I've learned so much from it. Even know, when show is over, and it's been over for years, I can't seem to stop obsessing over it or watching it. I feel like it's one chapter of my life that I'll never close.

It means a lot to me. Buffy is my favorite show, Angel is my second favorite show, and Buffy was the first time that I got super involved and obsessed with a series. It was the first time I watched a series week to week and kept up at it. I was in Junior High when I started watching and I loved how they mixed humor with the horror and how complex all the characters were.

Buffy means so much. When I'm sick, or sad, or tired of life... I watch Buffy. When I'm happy and excited, I watch Buffy. Buffy is my answer to a lot of questions in life. When I need strength, I watch Buffy. The show is like my home. My safe place. And it means all that a home means.

I didn't watch this show in my youth so it hasn't had quite the same impact on me that it has on the others in this thread.

What the buffyverse means to me is Weekend bonding with my fiancee. Until I discovered Buffy and Angel our Friday and Saturday nights (if we weren't catching up with friends) consisted of trying to pick out a movie at the cinema or a DVD to watch on the couch that we would both enjoy. It wasn't always easy because such movies were pretty rare and we'd either have to spend ages wandering the video store trying to find one or compromise "I'll see that romantic comedy with you, if you agree to see this spy thriller with me next week."

That is until we found Buffy. It has been postively fantastic watching a show together that we both enjoy (she's been a buffy fanatic for years) and it has allowed us to bond that much more together. I wouldn't trade all those weekends we've spent watching buffy together for the world. Its great to just switch off leave your problems at the door and immerse yourself in Sunnydale.

Same with my husband and me! I'd been a fan for years and we started watching together a couple of years ago, and we both love it now, (though he's not quite so actively enthusiastic about it). 🙂

I found buffy right as I got out of boot camp for me, as strange as this seems, it always and reminds me of a return to normalcy. I got season one and two the first time I was allowed to leave base on a whim.

So for me the buffyverse represents balance/normalcy, just the act of watching a DVD helped get me out of the boot camp mindset and back to a more normal mindset.

Buffyverse means a lot. I was in 8th or 9th grade and I still felt so outsider-y. Like I just couldn't fit anywhere. But then I found connection w/ the Buffyverse. So when I felt like didn't have anything, I turned to Buffy episodes. Where I knew I felt a connection with.

It was just a year or so since my parents have been separated and divorced. So a lot was going on.

buffy is and always was my escape. i remember my cousins being really into it when i was young, and then around junior high i got into it myself. even today rewatching all of the seasons, i am floored by the complexity of the storylines and the depth of the characters. they feel like my friends. and the buffyverse feels like this private world i have that makes me feel better when i'm just tired of life.

I'm coming up on the one year anniversary of my discovery of BtVS and my life hasn't been the same. It gives me such a glow of happiness to have this show in my life. I love everything about it; I watch it with a smile on my face most of the time; and I feel so utterly content when I'm watching an episode. BtVS is my all-time favorite show.

And I pretty much agree with everything others have said, except that I discovered the show at quite a bit older age than most of you, and I can't say that it has contributed to any character development or personality changes.
