What Exactly is a Hell Dimension anyway?

Angel went to a Hell dimension through the Acathla portal. Apparently it was a bad place. It drove him animal and Angel is a tough creature of the night.

Pavayne managed the entrance to a Hell dimension at Wolfram & Hart. It also looked like not such a nice place. I mean I don't know about you, but to me it looked like even Spike was scared of going there, and I didn't think Spike was scared of anything.

So then we have Quor T'oth where Connor spent his early years. Was that also a Hell dimension? I don't think they ever actually say it was like they do with the 2 previous examples.

And if Quor T'oth was a Hell dimension, what about Plrtz Glrb, and if Plrtz Glrb was, what about the lands with or without shrimp.

Holland Manners tells us our reality is a Hell dimension. Is that true? Because if it is, what makes it so?
 
These are very good questions but i don't know the answers to these questions.
 
I'm no Winifred, so bear with me. All I know regarding Connor's childhood home was that it was the worst of the worst, or at least that was the ugly jist I got from the ugly that opened the portal. (And don't think I can't spell his name!! Dare me!)

I think that Holland took great delight in showing Angel "the home office" (i.e., here, or more specifically, Los Angeles 😉) because it would dash Angel's already dwindling hopes and usher in the conception of little Connor, and subsequently the beginning of the end---the apocalyptic stuff that attends him and his cronies for the remainder of the show's tenure.

Specifically, I don't remember Hammond referring to "our reality" as a "hell dimension." Rather, it's where the Devil's headquarters is . . . It's where he does his best business. Uh, kind of like David Hasselhoff and Germany?
 
Hey!!! I take offense to that!!! hehe...there are some very nice parts to NJ!!! 😀 I think Hell is what you make it...kinda vague, but I'm sure there are happy beings in any dimension...Hell is a perception.

When was the hell dimension Pavayne mentioned? I don't remember it.

They did explain pretty well of Quor T'oth. In alot of episodes they talked about what a hell it would be, and then even Holtz said it was a hell because it was hard for them to survive. Then it would be a hell dimension because hello why would there be a violent Connor hunter that comes threw the portal? And in a later episode where Connor goes to the hotel after Holtz tells him to, Cordy like makes him feel better about the world which her demon powers when he tried to kill her. She even said that what she felt from him that Quor T'oth was indeed a hell. It was like one of those places where they didn't have to go into great detail about just to tell what kind of hell it was. Just them talking about what a terrable place it was and things like that, you get the message that Quor T'oth isn't a very nice place to live. You just have to pay reall close attention to the finer details : rotate :

Then I'd consider Plrtz Glrb a hell. Because to humans it would be a hell because they were used as slaves, they were considered cows hehe. To them it would be a hell because they were pretty much being tortured, and used like trash.

And I total agree to what Holland says about our reality being a hell. Because it pretty much is. Just look aorund it sure isn't some pretty place where everyone is happy and skipping about. It is indeed a hell ::bat::
 
A hell dimension seems to be any reality where in demons are the dominant form of life, and exert some control over human subjects.

So under the terms of that definition, if Wolfram & Hart dominated this dimension, even if it was done in stealth, would ours be a Hell dimension?

BTW do you have any support for that definition, or is that only an impression? I heard you say "seems to be", so that's what I'm guessing.
 
Maybe it depends on the person being there? For humans (and Lorne) Plrtz Glrb was a hell dimension, but to all the other green people it wasn't. And some people would see our world as a hell dimension, others wouln't.
 
Wouldn't our dimension be hell to some people, but heaven to others? Like to Illyria, it was hell because of the humans ruling everyone but to some demons (I can't htink of any that had a good successful run without being killed by Angel or Buffy) it'd be heaven. OH! To Sahjan (sp?), this would be heaven because he was able to survive for one long as time and he had fun/pleasure (or whatever).

Blah, too much thinking.
 
well, no, our dimension wouldn't be the standard hell dimension, because demons aren't the dominant form of life. the whole of society is geared towards humans, demons only thrive on the outskirts and in the shadows. Of course some beings would see it as a hell dimension, but you can't define reality by the various perceptions people who don't account for the norm have.

I think, in the Buffyverse, there's a hell demension to fit any person's idea of 'hell'. Hell is what you percieve the worst place imaginable to be. That's sorta what I'm getting from it. So if you thought shrimp was the worst thing on earth ... then you might end up in a hell demension where there's nothing but shrimp ... okay, I know, bad example ... Not a good definition either ... I'll just stop now before I embarass myself any further.
 
Is it like, a Whedonverse Hell dimension is defined by a character's description of it as a Hell dimension simply because he perceives it as such, or do you think there's probably a definition of a Hell dimension in some obscure Watcher's Codex, or some such thing.

And Wes, was I watching Season 5 wrong, because I got the impression they were insinuating the Senior Partners and their minions did dominate this reality. If we pretend I was watching correctly for a sec, would that mean I would be correct in viewing our reality as a Hell dimension in that world view?

BTW, what exactly is a demon, anyway?

W&H may've had a great deal of power on earth, but they certainly didn't dominate it. The earth is a human stronghold.
 
A Hell dimension is basicaly a demension that is similar to one of the 9 layers of hell.......there like a layer of hell but they are not one exacly, and there are around thousands of them(on the show) and they all are well litlary hell to be in, and there all differnt in there own ways........because there are demintons, planes, realitys and alot of other stuff
 
That's the Judeo-Christian view of hell....in the Buffyverse, heaven and hell are very different. There are many different hell & heaven dimensions. I think you could probably more clearly define what is a Heaven dimension than Hell, because Hell is what you make it. Buffy says in S6 "I live in Hell, because I've been expelled, from heaven"
